Shining a Light on Training

Shining a Light on Training

.Is disruptive training really worth it today? What is the true cost of trainers/advisors/consultants invading your dealership???

In addition to the initial cost, is the lost time, disrupted procedures and never-ending battle to bring all of the trainees together in one place at one time.?A decision maker understands that the disruption of internal routines can have long term negative consequences.??

In the past in-person training was the only viable option for face to face instruction.?Recent advances and subsequent adoption of remote meeting technology has changed the dynamics of one on one training. Add to that the improvements in remote delivery platforms, and it becomes possible to provide real, effective training entirely online and without disrupting the flow of business in the dealership.

This contemporary training archetype opens powerful new opportunities for delivering consistent, current training.?A far cry from the power-point days of yore, these new training platforms offer engaging, even entertaining, content designed to capture the trainee’s attention.?

Tangible benefits include the ability to target training directly to the pain point experienced by the dealership without the cost and logistical nightmare of arranging on-site training.?Another consideration, often overlooked, is repeatability.?New hires and team members who may have missed out on on-site training in the past can now easily benefit from the online training platform.?Now the dealership can offer consistent current training across the board instead of having to decide who will benefit and who will not.

While the dealership sees less disruption and considerably less cost, there are other factors to consider.?Not all online training is created equal.?Be sure the program platform you select actually accomplishes your mission of curing a pain point. Avoid fluffy fillers. Poor training can do more harm than good. Developing, implementing and maintaining an online training structure can be expensive and time consuming. When trainers rush to 'put something online', quality and content can suffer. A little due diligence on the dealer's part goes a long way.?

While it could be argued that some training may not translate well to online platforms, it can also be said that maybe the best model for that subject just hasn’t been developed yet…..or has it?
