Shining a Light on our Moranbah Emulsions Team

Shining a Light on our Moranbah Emulsions Team

Its always helpful to understand what goes on inside the mind of a hiring manager, and the hiring team, when changing jobs and preparing for interviews. ?

As a Recruiter we’re always looking to dig deep and learn as much about a person as we can, to help make the right decisions for our hiring teams. ?

Conducting your own research when job hunting is paramount in choosing a new role,?as it’s a two-way street. You’re also evaluating and learning more about a business and how they operate. ?

You want to be able to fit in with the team, be productive and enjoy the people you work with. ?

?I thought it would be interesting to learn more about our leaders and how they make their hiring choices, so today I’m shining a light on our?Emulsions team in Moranbah. ?

Emulsions is the manufacturing of our explosives gel, which is used in mining and is generally the first step in the pathway to becoming an Ammonia Production Technician, in our Moranbah operations. ?

The Emulsions plant consists of a warehouse, control room, bagging area for the urea and two large storage tanks for the finished product. ?

We recently added?Shannon Rupapere to the team, a decision we got right and wanted to share some of the reasons he was hired.?

Luke Dwyer and John Turlan were happy to sit down and tell me?what they?look for in their?new starters.?

?

Luke and John, can you give us some insight into the team and your current Focus??

Luke: The focus is currently on working together, creating safe-ground and safely delivering quality product to our customers. ?

Can you tell me the training requirements, or experience you look for when recruiting your Production Technicians??

Luke: The approach I take when hiring people for an Emulsion Tech role is just looking for someone with the right attitude, is positive towards their role and is eager to learn and develop.?

John: good operating skills as a lot of the outside work is forklift operations, forward thinking with the ability to take onboard instructions and work alone.?

?

What Skillset, character traits do you think make a good employee??

Luke: A team-based mind set and willing to work well in a small close-knit team. People who try their best at everything they do.?

John: I look for honesty and positive problem-solving attitude as this can set the tone for the workplace.?

What do you personally look for in an applicant??

Luke: When I’m hiring, I’m looking for someone who is bubbly, carries a positive attitude and has participated in teams' sports, or worked in a team environment previously. Team sport for me teaches us a lot of really good life skills. ?

John: I think staff who shine are the staff who own their roles and come up with solutions when they are faced with issue's. Communication is key in a plant like emulsions as we are very focused on delivering quality product to our customers, usually on very tight schedules. Emulsions are a small team and its very easy to make a positive impact with the right attitude.
