Shining a light on our female talent

In the lead up to International Rural Women’s Day on 15 October, we’re shining a light on some of our amazing team members like Isobel Pearce, who are on the ground across rural Australia, supporting NAB’s Regional & Agribusiness customers and championing their local communities. Isobel, NAB’s Business Banking Manager stationed at Parkes in Central Western New South Wales, has a deep appreciation for the indispensable role of women in ensuring the smooth operation of rural-based businesses. here.

Growing up on a mixed enterprise grazing property under the guidance of self-employed parents, Isobel knew she wanted a career centred around rural life.

Isobel’s workday is always different – some weeks are spent working in a different BBC or branch every day. With Isobel’s customers largely based within a two-hour radius of her home branch, meetings range from on-site and on-farm to in-branch.

The range of different customers’ businesses and locations Isobel supports are reflective of the diverse nature of business in Central Western NSW.

“Recognising and uplifting the vital role of rural women isn't just about equality; it's about appreciating their immense contributions to our communities. We work with equal passion, and our presence is invaluable,” Isobel says.

"Women are generally still underrepresented in decision-making positions, though I have witnessed changes taking place in attitudes and in the value placed on what rural women bring to the table. It is something special to see those following a similar path behind me and not necessarily having all the same challenges as rural women have had previously.

“There is no doubt in my mind that rural women have their fair share of challenges to overcome, and it is up to everyone to work toward equality and highlight the value that rural women bring to business.’’
