It's been an exciting and eventful month at Thorn Lighting.
We've shared some insightful reading material, including a new article on Outdoor Public Lighting: Balancing the Needs of People and Planet.
We also celebrated the announcement of our partnership with Sunderland AFC, marking the completion of an extensive lighting upgrade at their facilities.
Our THORNeco team continues to innovate, introducing the remarkable TOM product to the lineup. And speaking of new products, we welcomed the latest addition to the Contus track system - Contus sensors.?
Sports lighting remains a key focus as we participated in the SAPCA Technical Meeting in Nottingham, where Iain Wilkie, our Global Product Manager for Floodlights, presented our Altis sports floodlighting solution. The team also attended the VIP Sports Event in Dornbirn which was an amazing event full of of innovation and insights.?
November was a month of well-deserved recognition for our team. Martin Thompson, our Product Manager for Outdoor Luminaires, was named Employee of the Year in recognition of his outstanding dedication. In addition, Thorn Lighting received the prestigious Project of the Year award for our work on the Aykley Heads Footpath lighting project in Durham, at the Highway Electrical Association (HEA) Awards. We are also proud to announce that our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Spennymoor won the Sustainable Manufacturing award at The Manufacturer MX Awards 2024.

SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING AWARD

CONTUS SENSORS
On the back of the internal launch window last month, we’re excited to announce the latest addition to the Thorn Contus track system – the Contus Sensors, designed to provide greater flexibility and energy savings. Perfect for both industrial and retail environments, these sensors offer both wired and Bluetooth? control of connected Contus luminaires, with sensors for all mounting heights from 2 to 16 metres. VIP SPORTS EVENT
Our Sports Lighting team attended the VIP Sports event in Dornbirn and Munich at the end of November discussing game-changing topics in sports lighting and technology.?
Over the two days, the team in attendance presented topics including the future of controls and connectivity, sports lighting considerations, optical excellence and maximising fan engagement.
In attendance, Saurabh Pandhi, VP of Thorn Lighting noted, "Our goal for the event was to unite leading experts in sports lighting and technology. SAPCA TECHNICAL MEETING

We were thrilled to participate in the SAPCA Technical Meeting in Nottingham earlier this month, where we had the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions about sports lighting with familiar faces and new contacts.
Iain Wilkie, our Global Product Manager for Floodlights, shared, "At the event, we showcased Thorn's premium sports floodlighting solution, Altis, seamlessly integrated with UrbaSens Play and the 4remote app. This innovative setup highlighted one of our flexible, energy-saving control systems, ideal for sports clubs across competitive, training, and recreational levels".
HIGHWAY ELECTRICAL ASSOCIATION AWARDS?
In November, we were proud to bring home two awards from the Highway Electrical Association (HEA) Awards.
Our Product Manager for Outdoor luminaires, Thompson Martin, won a well-deserved 'Employee of the Year' award.?Paul Kilburn, Managing Director UK&IE said: "It is truly a privilege to work alongside someone as talented, passionate, and genuinely kind as Martin, and I can think of no one more deserving of the HEA Employee of the Year award".
Thorn also won 'Project of the Year' for the lighting solutions we provided at Aykley Heads Footpath, Durham! Our lighting solutions have provided super-efficient illumination with features sympathetic to nocturnal wildlife.?Read more about the success here.??
