Shining a Light on Moral Injury: The Urgent Need for Mental Health Support in UK Prisons

A new report co-produced by experts from Combat Stress, University of Bath, University College London, King’s College London and NHS partners has drawn attention to a hidden issue in UK prisons - moral injury.

We’re joining the organisations involved in the report’s publication in calling on the government to provide specialist mental health support for prison staff and prisoners amid a sharp rise in self-harm and overcrowding.

Great article. Having worked in prisons myself, and having a close family member who was a prison officer and governor for 35 years, my personal experience backs this up 100%. Moral injury in prison environments is a real issue.
