Shine bright!

Shine bright!

We had several teenagers over last week to carve pumpkins for Halloween.

It was so fun to watch them pick out their design and then work together to bring their vision to life.?

They started with a plan, sorted through the variety of designs and pictures that they either liked or thought they could finish in the time we had. Shortly, they began scooping out the pumpkin guts. This was hilarious to watch. Some kids dove right in even using their hands to get the pumpkin guts, while others stood back and could hardly watch let alone smell the aroma of the pumpkin insides. After the pumpkin was clean, they began to bring their pumpkin to life, meticulous carving various designs, and using a variety of tools to get them just right.

The most fun part of the evening was when they lit their pumpkin and saw how it looked illuminated. For some pumpkins, the light was dull. The kids had to take the top off or cut back more of the outside in order to really see it glow. For others, the light was bright.

Parenting can be a lot like a pumpkin. Sometimes our light is dull and doesn’t shine and other times it can light up a space.

What causes parents to dull their potential… numb your senses… and sabotage your ability to show up as your best self?

??

  • Unhealthy eating
  • Workaholism?
  • Impulse shopping
  • Watching mindless TV
  • Rage-scrolling on social media
  • Negative self-talk
  • Perfectionism
  • Lack of boundaries
  • Comparing yourself to others
  • Fear of success
  • Being a relentless people pleaser
  • Staying in an unhappy relationship

Whatever your dimmers are, you need to know that it's not your fault for becoming dependent on them.?

?We live in a world that is moving faster than ever.?

?

Anxiety and depression are on the rise... technology is designed to trigger dopamine responses in the brain that we crave... and our divisive social climate is making more of us want to numb themselves to the stress of it all. But just because your reliance on dimmers isn’t your fault,?that doesn’t mean you are powerless to change.

Take a moment to imagine what your life might be like without these dimmers dulling your clarity and holding you back from showing up as your best self...?

?

Imagine if you no longer numbed yourself to avoid discomfort because you were confident of your ability to embrace it, learn from it, and thrive.?

?

Imagine if you had the skills and mindset to adapt to change and respond calmly and successfully to whatever curve balls come your way.?

?

Imagine how brightly you would shine if you were operating at 100% full power.?
