Manohar International Airport, Goa
A future-first, technologically-driven, and passenger-centric international airport.
As the scent of spring fills the air, Goa prepares to embrace one of its most dynamic and culturally rich festivals – the Shigmo Festival. This annual extravaganza, steeped in tradition and folklore, brings together locals and visitors alike in a celebration of Goan heritage.
Shigmo, also known as the spring festival, holds deep significance for the Konkani diaspora of Goa. It takes place during the Phalguna month, according to the Saka calendar, typically falling around March each year. The festival is a testament to Goa's multicultural tapestry, drawing inspiration from ancient Puranic legends and local customs.
At Manohar International Airport, we take immense pride in being a part of Goa's vibrant cultural fabric. As the primary doorway to this enchanting state, we are not only committed to providing seamless travel experiences but also to showcasing the rich heritage that Goa embodies. If you’re looking to get a taste of Goa’s rich culture through this festival, we’ve broken down the celebration for you so you can prepare accordingly.
Shigmo festivities span across various regions of Goa. The festival is celebrated in two distinct forms – Dhakto Shigmo and Vhadlo Shigmo. While Dhakto Shigmo is primarily observed by rural communities, Vhadlo Shigmo holds greater significance and is embraced by all sections of society.
The festival began with Holi on March 26 and is celebrated for 14 days. This year, the festival will be held from March 26 to April 8 across 14 locations, namely Ponda, Calangute, Sanquelim, Valpoi, Panaji, Porvorim, Bicholim, Pernem, Canacona, Vasco, Shiroda/Curchorem, Quepem/Dharbandora, Margao, Mapusa/Sanguem, and Cuncolim. Many of these locations are just an hour’s drive from Manohar International Airport.
