Shifting from Imposter Syndrome to Confidence Syndrome: Owning Your Greatness

For years, we’ve heard about imposter syndrome—that feeling of being a fraud, despite evidence of your accomplishments. It’s a term used to describe the doubt that creeps in, telling you that you don’t belong or you’re not enough. But what if we could reframe this narrative? What if, instead of focusing on imposter syndrome, we shifted toward a new perspective: confidence syndrome?

How did this come about for me?? I was on a recent Zoom call with a group of brilliant entrepreneurs, discussing a topic that’s become all too familiar: imposter syndrome. One by one, these highly accomplished women—myself included—shared how we felt stuck, questioning our worth despite all we had achieved. It hit me in that very moment: that we were not imposters. We were all highly qualified, certified, and experienced leaders who had proven our value over and over again.

That’s when it clicked. The issue wasn’t imposter syndrome—we were missing “CONFIDENCE syndrome. We were battling the voices of doubt, but what if we got rid of our inner critics, the limiting beliefs from childhood, and instead fully embraced our power? What if we walked in our confidence, rather than shrinking in self-doubt?

This is not about denying the struggles that come with imposter syndrome, but about transforming them into a movement toward unapologetic confidence. I’ve lived through this evolution myself, and now, I help others see that they are enough.

My Journey from Imposter to Confident Leader

Like many high achievers, I was no stranger to imposter syndrome. Despite having written three books, hosted a radio show, and climbed the corporate ladder to lead global teams across Europe and Asia, I still questioned whether I was truly qualified for the success I had achieved. Even as I raised two children and climbed the corporate ladder, I felt like I had to constantly prove myself—both to others and to myself.

But something changed along the way. After years of striving and doubting, I realized that the label I had attached to myself—imposter—was holding me back. I decided it was time to shift the narrative. Instead of shrinking, I now embrace the idea of “confidence syndrome. I began to focus on what I had already accomplished and what I was capable of achieving. It wasn’t that I suddenly became "more" of anything—I simply recognized that I was more than enough as I was.

Confidence Syndrome: Rewriting Your Internal Script

Confidence syndrome is the antidote to imposter syndrome. While imposter syndrome tells you that you’re a fraud, confidence syndrome affirms that you belong. It’s the belief that the experiences, skills, and knowledge you’ve accumulated over the years have equipped you to step into any room, any role, and any challenge with certainty.

The shift from imposter syndrome to confidence syndrome begins by recognizing the inherent value in your journey. Every step you’ve taken—every challenge you’ve overcome, every milestone you’ve reached—has prepared you for where you are now. Confidence doesn’t mean never feeling doubt; it means knowing that even when doubt arises, you have what it takes to push through and succeed.

I realized that I had been getting in my own way, constantly second-guessing myself and downplaying my great achievements. But the truth is, every experience—whether writing books, leading global teams, managing the latest technology, or raising a family—had molded me into a formidable leader. I am enough, and so are you.

The Power of Surrounding Yourself with the Right People

One key to embracing confidence syndrome is recognizing the impact of your environment. Too often, imposter syndrome is fueled by external negativity—by people who doubt your capabilities or dismiss your dreams. These voices can be powerful, especially when they align with your own internal doubts.

However, to step into your confidence, you must intentionally surround yourself with individuals who uplift you, challenge you to grow, and recognize your worth. Confidence thrives in environments where you’re supported, where your goals are celebrated, and where you’re encouraged to think bigger.

During my journey, I learned the importance of curating the people in my life. I distanced myself from naysayers and leaned into relationships that nurtured my confidence, such as the leaders on the Zoom call that gave me this revelation. This shift was instrumental in transforming my mindset.

You Are Enough: The Shift Toward Confidence
