Introduction: The Innovation-Innovator Contradiction
In the realm of modern business and technology, two terms stand out prominently: "Innovation" and "Innovator".
Interestingly, a cursory glance at Google search trends reveals a striking disparity.
While 'Innovation', a concept embodying advancement, novelty, and creative disruption, garners substantial attention, 'Innovator', the driving force behind this transformative process, often lingers in the shadows of search queries.
This discrepancy is not just a matter of semantics but a reflection of a broader societal and professional oversight.
I have observed this trend with keen interest, recognizing that understanding the nuances between these terms is pivotal. The journey of innovation is not merely about the end product or idea; it is driven by the minds that conceive and drive these improvements. Below, we delve deeper into this dichotomy, exploring why everyone wants innovation, yet people need to search for innovators (intrapreneurs) who often remain unsung heroes in the public eye.
The Underlying Reasons for the Disparity
Why does this disparity in Google search trends between 'Innovation' and 'Innovator' exist?
The answer lies in the perception of these concepts. 'Innovation' is often seen as a tangible outcome or a set of practices that can be implemented within an organization. It's a buzzword that captures the imagination of companies and individuals alike, symbolizing progress and competitive edge. This appeal is reflected in the high volume of searches as businesses and individuals seek strategies, models, and examples of innovation to emulate and adopt.
On the other hand, 'Innovator' represents the human element behind these advancements. Innovators (intrapreneurs) are the thinkers, the creators, the risk-takers. They are the ones who challenge the status quo, ask difficult questions, and push boundaries.
However, their role is frequently overshadowed by the result of their efforts. In people's minds, the process of innovation often takes precedence over the people who drive it. This oversight may also stem from the misconception that innovation is a spontaneous or serendipitous event rather than a result of persistent effort and creative thinking by individuals who have ideas for this improvement!
The implications of this disparity are profound. By focusing on 'Innovation' and neglecting the 'Innovator,' businesses need to be more focused on the human aspect of processes or creating an Intrapreneur Operating system (IOS). Understanding and valuing the innovator's journey is crucial for fostering a culture that genuinely supports and encourages innovation.

Elevating the Innovator (Intrapreneur): The Human Element in Innovation
The journey of an innovator is often a lonely one, marked by a unique blend of vision, perseverance, and resilience. These are the individuals who dare to think differently, challenge conventional wisdom, and venture into the unknown.
The path of an intrapreneur is fraught with obstacles and uncertainties, yet it is this very journey that is critical for true innovation.
Recognizing and supporting these trailblazers is about more than just giving credit where it's due. It's about creating and nurturing a culture where innovative (idea-sharing) thinking is encouraged and rewarded. Businesses that I work with understand and value the role of the intrapreneur and are more likely to foster a culture of continuous innovation (improvement). This involves not only celebrating successes but also acknowledging the efforts, the setbacks, and the learning that come with the pursuit of something truly groundbreaking.
Furthermore, by highlighting the stories of intrapreneurs, we can inspire the next generation of thinkers and creators. These narratives are powerful tools that can ignite passion, encourage risk-taking, and foster a mindset that views challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation.
In this era of rapid technological advancement and intense competition, the need to understand and invest in the human aspect of innovation has never been more critical. Innovators are not just the creators of new products or services; they are the catalysts for change, improved systems, and consistent and never-ending improvement.
By shifting our focus from solely 'Innovation' to the 'Innovator', we open up a world of possibilities where human creativity and ingenuity are at the forefront of driving progress.
Conclusion: A Call to Shift the Paradigm
In concluding the disparity between 'Innovation' and 'Innovator' in public perception and Google search trends, it becomes clear that a paradigm shift is essential. We must transition from a narrow focus on innovation as an abstract concept to a broader, more inclusive understanding that places the innovator at the heart of the process.
This shift is not just a matter of giving due recognition; it's about fundamentally changing how we approach the concept of innovation itself.
Innovation is more than a buzzword or a checklist of practices. It's a human-centric process that thrives on creativity, courage, and perseverance. The stories of intrapreneurs, with their trials and triumphs, are not mere anecdotes but powerful lessons in resilience and visionary thinking.
As we move forward in an era where innovation is the only way to success and survival!
?Please focus on creating a culture that nurtures and supports intrapreneurs, recognizing that they are the only drivers of progress and change.
Promotes Intrapreneurship, Entrepreneurship, Organization Development, Family Business Management, Startups, Strategic Planning
10 个月I love this distinction which is ignored so often. Great article. In my view this is the key to making organizations more agile and innovative. Often there is focus on the end result and not on the people who make it happen. Management need to realize that you can't BORROW innovation n creativity by replicating a process or a product but the organizational culture needs to identify and support the Intrapreneurs who are already within the organization.
