Shift your perspective to be proactive

Shift your perspective to be proactive

We are all on a marathon, journeying towards what it means to live a vibrant and flourishing life. Carefully balancing maintaining healthy relationships, prioritizing physical and/or mental health, and countless other things that capture our attention. I'm sure that some of you resonate with the fact that life can be so busy it often feels like we are living a reactive-based lifestyle, putting out small fires here and then scrambling to something else.

Our current healthcare model is no different - reactive. Addressing health issues as they arise, treating symptoms and managing diseases after their onset. While modern medicine has certainly advanced, it seems the focus on prevention and long-term health management is overshadowed by the newest weight-loss drug, supplement, or quick fix.

Despite our unique experiences and walks in life, one thing is for certain;

'We only appreciate our health after we lose it.'

And we as a society, are in a losing battle against the chronic diseases that are so prevalent today. Collectively, we are chronically under slept, we have prolonged and unchecked high stress, increased sitting time and reduced physical activity, and poorer nutrition and fuelling habits. These micro-decisions we are faced with everyday compounded with our tendency to react are simply not sustainable.

Take this diagram above, when we start to implement treatment and lifestyle changes after we have signs or symptoms of disease, we have to work so much harder to prevent further health deterioration and climb back to optimal health.

Proactive healthcare, on the other hand, emphasizes the importance of preventing health issues before they start.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

With proactive healthcare, the emphasis is on disease prevention, health promotion, and early detection. The core elements of being proactive include:

  1. Regular Health Assessments - understand your baseline to monitor your longevity biomarkers to identify potential health risks early.
  2. Lifestyle Modifications - personalized plans that focus on the key pillars of overall wellness (we will cover that in the future)
  3. Early Interventions - using evidence-based strategies based on your personal medical history to promote long-term health before it becomes a more significant problem.

If you haven't had a chance to think about being proactive, I encourage you to think about it and explore. Not sure how to get started? Questions or comments? DM me and let's chat.

We are just getting started!

Until next time.
