Shift and Reset. The Ultimate Choice.

All leaders shift an environment to reset. It’s a non-negotiable. Leadershifts and Reset Your Life, underscore the following: Tunnel vision grows the “sick-social-cycle” (read: doing the same thing over and over but never getting the desired results).
New behavior and effective habits are triggered by changing the environment. It’s how the shuffle button morphs your playlist from mundane to magical. One of the most potent gifts you’ll ever give yourself (and those around you) are deliberate and intentional acts of change (ask my wife how she felt when I got my blood sugar under control- followed by a fully under written life insurance policy). Novel stimuli result from deliberate and volitional choices. The Science of Consequences demonstrates that even allergies can be deeply curtailed by watching certain videos.
I decided to write this because I’ve witnessed (first hand) several people survive nervous breakdowns.
1- A mom of a child with autism (non-verbal), while shadowing my intervention, broke down as she reflected and disclosed, “what will happen to my son if I die?”
2- A financial manager hired me to consult with his advisors, “If these (guys) don’t learn to prospect and not just sell products- I’m doomed”.
3- A behavior analyst confided, “I recently had heart surgery and I’m the only one in our household working. When the insurance companies delay an authorization, that decreases my pay. I have to keep the lights on and afford my medication”.
The folks I keep in my network are immensely invaluable.
Meghan Farrell, VP of Operations at The COR Behavioral Group, recently posted “The Ideal Job Venn Diagram” by David Hamil. The underlying theme: The ideal job lies at the intersection of my likes, talent and monetary desires.
So, the resilient results in the above scenarios went like this:
- As the mom finished wiping her tears, her 4 year old son, while learning on the tablet, grabbed my hand and kissed it- the environment shifted.
- The financial manager took off his “manager” hat and engaged in the learning process with his advisors. By fully embracing the common fears associated with picking up the phone and receiving a “no”, he engineered an authentic reset.
- The behavior analyst was empowered to align his strategies with that of the insurance company in order to streamline future authorizations. This was an idea that a good friend, Eric Harrison, describes in a post, “Be the Obvious Choice”.
Novel behaviors are well worth the effort. Our relationships deserve it. The next generation’s survival depends upon it. Today is the cushioned welcome mat waiting to absorb your first new step. Choose now.
