The Shift Has Begun
I feel a change in the air, and I’m loving it. There’s always a big shift before the holidays but this was different. Everywhere I went this week I could feel how people have genuinely had enough of the current state. People are ready for a significant change.?I felt it in line at the supermarket, on a trip to the Dead Sea, and at the Passover Seder last night.
This is how we should feel every day - it’s the most natural thing in the world for humans to want things to be better! We are programmed to want things to be better. But in order for the shift to get underway, we need to stop pretending everything is okay. We need to admit that we have some really serious issues to deal with, and especially in the world of work.
As this shift gets underway we're going to see how people will be less motivated, the quality of their performance will go down, and businesses will feel it in their bottom line.
No More Compromising
The days of compromising are over. The days of pretending to love our job and the people we work with just to get a salary are over. As this shift gets underway we're going to see how people will be less motivated, the quality of their performance will go down, and businesses will feel it in their bottom line. So now we have a choice. We can either keep calling it mental health issues and burnout, we can keep talking about whether or not people want to come back to the office, we can keep talking about titles and salaries - but eventually we'll realize that all those things were never the real issue. The real issue is that people are starting to realize that they don't have to perform like machines anymore to enjoy life. We're starting to realize how these systems we have in place where millions are exploited so a few super wealthy people can get richer is not how things should be. We are all human and we all deserve to be happy. And we're all really smartening up to the fact that material things are nice, but will not provide us with the fulfillment we seek.
The only way we have to go from here, this lowest point, is upward.
Getting the human ego under control is the key to having a healthier culture and making your business more successful.
I could already sense the shift happening as we headed into the holiday, and this morning I woke up to see everyone posting about this latest Workvivo survey claiming that 98% of HR professionals are burned out. I have an explanation for that but I don't think it will be very popular.
Why HR Leaders are Burned Out
I've often wrote about my great admiration for HR's who held everyone together when things got really crazy at the beginning of the pandemic. They had to learn to be selfless and throw themselves into finding suitable solutions for thousands of employees overnight. All the conditions kept shifting and they had to be there fixing everything. But now it's two years later and we're at a different stage of this process. Now it's time to recognize that all these man-made concepts and methods are not working. They may have been enough before the pandemic but now we can all see the real problems. And these are people problems. They don't really have anything to do with all the external things we think are bothering us, and far more to do with the internal clash of our egos. And they've been there all along. We've been talking about toxic environments very politely for many years, and latest atrocities in the Ukraine have highlighted the real issue - human nature. We can't keep ignoring it and expect things to get better.

We need a powerful method for overcoming the human ego that keeps creeping up and destroying everything we are trying to build.
I'm so tired of seeing people leave great jobs and all kinds of opportunities - claiming they'll make less money but be happier. But guess what - no matter where you go or what you do your ego goes with you! So you really haven't accomplished anything by getting away from it all.
We need a powerful method for overcoming the human ego that keeps creeping up and destroying everything we are trying to build. We need to stop imagining that focusing on other things like being eco-friendly will make it go away. Ignoring the problem only makes it worse.
No Greater Symbol of Our Egoism
The Dead Sea?has existed?for many thousands of years. This is the lowest point on earth 420 meters below sea level, and today perhaps even lower because we saw on our drive back home how it's constantly getting shallower. Huge craters have formed in it that go deep into the earth.
The Dead Sea is very close to the inner part of Earth, where, in its magma, the entire system of chemical elements boils. So this place is very heavy. The water in the sea is also special, very oily to the touch. No matter how much it is studied, it is impossible to fully study?its special qualities.
This sea represents our egoism, and it also has great healing powers. So what's the lesson? We need to understand the purpose of our egoism, because once we do - we'll be able to use it for good. We'll be able to use our egoism to heal the toxic nature of our relationships. We'll be able to use our egoism to bring the world back into balance.

And for businesses, try to imagine for one minute what heights your company could reach if you had a handle on this ego thing. I have to tell you very honestly that you can't - because it's far beyond the scope of your imagination in your current state. To get beyond the limitations of your current state, you need to experience the integral approach, which is all about strengthening our human connection. The integral method is based on Connection Workshops that tie us together in an optimal manner and this is really good for business! So this is a win win solution - getting the human ego under control is the key to having a healthier culture and making your business more successful. Because people are the key to your success. And that will never change.

2 年I just love this article Josia Nakash it is beautifully written and so honest. I'm not sure if you have read the book Reinventing organisations by Frederic Laloux but he too talks about the ego and the fact that everyone is starting to feel the world of work is broken. The book has a hopeful message that we can build more soulful and purposeful organisations. I particularly like his quote " The pain we feel is the pain of something old that is dying ... while something new is waiting to be born"
Thought-provoking points, Josia ??
