SHIFT: From there to here


Welcome back folks to another edition of SHIFT: the newsletter. I think you're going to like this one!


I feel a little conflicted calling this one "SELF BELIEF"

since beliefs are the source of all suffering, so let me qualify this: Self belief here is simply the opposite of self doubt. Self assurance might be more apt and I may indeed rename this module in future.


Can you let go of your beliefs?


As always, it is the content of the SHIFT: itself that is important, more than the heading it sits under, and today's SHIFT: is the absolutely paradigm shattering one from there to here.

Confidence

Since the three core outcomes of SHIFT: Mindset mastery are clarity, confidence and calm, I decided to present this week's live completely unscripted and unplanned, to demonstrate the power of presence.

I've coached many leaders around confidence and the most common themes are related to communication, particularly to large groups - presentations in board meetings being a common example.

The greatest barrier to confidence is the overthinking mind attempting to answer the question "what are they thinking?". Once you can put that question down, you can find presence, and the words will always come.

Feeling is the secret

No matter what your goals, it is never about the thing, and always about how you believe the thing will make you feel. So we go straight to the source. The feeling you are seeking, when you feel it, it'll be felt right here, and it'll be felt right now.

"There" simply doesn't exist.

Your entire life's experience has had three ever present qualities

  1. You
  2. Here (you've never been anywhere else)
  3. Now (it has always been now)


The destructive power of "getting there"

When you have a subconscious belief of needing to get "there" to feel ok this has a number of devastating effects.

"I'll be ok when I'm there"

becomes

"I'm not ok until I'm there"

becomes

"I'm not ok here"

And since you are always here, you are effectively saying every day "I'm not ok"


Which is why you feel so stuck.



The truth, there is hope

The liberating truth is that the only place you've ever been stuck, is in the prison of your own mind. The prison who's bars are your beliefs about yourself. And particularly your beliefs that begin with...

"I'm just not..."

"Other people are..."

"I've never been..."

"I'm not one of those people who..."

These beliefs become self fulfilling because you are repeating them subconsciously 24/7. They are self fulfilling, yet they have no substance.


When you find the courage to question just one of your beliefs, you have opened the door to your liberation, from the illusory prison of your own mind.
