Welcome to SHI Spotlight, a monthly series which is dedicated to shining a light on our talented team at SHI UK.?
In this instalment, we speak to Jade-Marie Elborn about her role as a Talent and Career Specialist. As a naturally curious person, Jade enjoys getting to know new talent and helping them take the next step in their careers:?
What does your role entail??
I’m currently a Talent and Career Specialist. It predominantly covers internal market opportunities, rather than external talent acquisition. It includes peer reviews, job description reviews, internal projects in regard to HR, job descriptions, and job titling.?
It is mostly project-based work at the moment with the view to expand on that as the role moves forward. It's a new role that was created when I returned from my maternity leave.?
Was your previous role related to this??
I've been in the talent team at SHI since I joined back in 2017 as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. I was then promoted to a Talent Acquisition Assistant Manager, which is now referred to as a Lead to Acquisition Specialist. This is when I went on maternity leave.?
Now I've come back into a slightly different role on a part-time basis.?
Is there a particular reason why SHI created this role now??
There's a lot more project work than there used to be for SHI, particularly in HR and the talent team, and expansion within the team globally requires more HR and Talent communication input for it.?
So what’s your background??
Prior to SHI, I did internal recruitment for another employer, for two or three years. And prior to that, I worked in the big bad world of agency recruitment.?

You've been in the same sort of roles for a long time, so do you think it suits your skill set?
Yes, particularly in my previous roles within SHI, and in recruitment. I liked it because I got to be nosy, and I could ask a lot of ‘why’ questions to people. It is really intriguing to know why people want to do things, why they want to move and why they want to change.?
I wanted to be able to see those people that I was hiring progress and develop rather than have to say “great, well done, on to the next person”. You never saw or heard from them really.
And then in my current role, I really like the projects, it brings out my nerdy side. I am looking at numbers and spreadsheets and analysing data, things like that.?
I like the fact that you get to see the rewards of your job more because if you are recruiting someone internally, you can see them progress in front of your eyes rather than being in and out the door within two seconds.?
How have you found working at SHI??
I think it has a really great culture. It's a very friendly atmosphere. There's a lot of banter in the team, and you're able to be your own personality.?
I've been very fortunate with how my career has developed at SHI. I think that the people at SHI are great. There are people that I've met here that are now considered very close friends.?
Where do you see yourself in five years??
My role is still new, so I quite like what I'm doing.?
It'd be great to manage a small team in the future, but it depends on how the business grows over the next few years.?
Ultimately, I just want to be able to do my job and do it really well.
