Jaguar Land Rover is set to unveil plans to build electric cars at its West Midlands plant. The carmaker has scheduled a six-week shutdown at the Castle Bromwich plant to install a new range of tooling that will allow it to make an all-electric version of its flagship XJ saloon, first reported by the Sunday Times. An announcement about the investment, worth hundreds of millions of pounds, is expected on Friday. Last week, Ford declared it would slash 12,000 jobs in Europe. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Boots will redeploy the “overwhelming majority” of staff affected by its decision to close around 200 stores, according to the company. Boots, which has more than 2,400 stores employing about 62,000 staff, said on Friday that the closures will take place over the next 18 months. Boots boss Sebastian James said the closure programme was "the right thing to do" in the current tough trading conditions. While locations are yet to be revealed, it’s believed the move will primarily affect local pharmacies. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Working long hours is bad for our health. A recent study has shown that long days of 10 hours or more increase our risk of stroke, adding another black mark to the list of issues already associated with failing to switch off, such as poor mental health and weight gain. Britons have a longer working week than anyone else in the European Union, clocking up 42.3 hours per week on average. Bond University assistant professor Libby Sander points to concerns around automation, slow wage growth, and increasing underemployment. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Network Rail has made an indicative bid to buy part of collapsed steelmaker British Steel. Network Rail, which acquires around 100,000 tonnes of rails a year from British Steel, has bid for the company’s rail services business. British Steel collapsed into liquidation in May after rescue talks between owner Greybull and the government broke down, risking 5,000 jobs. About a dozen companies were believed to have expressed interest in buying all or parts of the business. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Swiss researchers have developed a method that could use the hot air in train tunnels to heat (or cool) thousands of homes. A series of plastic pipes filled with transfer fluid or cold water would be installed along train passages — as passing trains warm those pipes, energy would be produced. A 645,000 square foot area of lined tunnels could potentially supply enough energy to heat 1,500 homes, reducing CO2 emissions by 2 million tons a year. In 2015, Transport for London trialled a regenerative braking system to feed energy back into the grid. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Idea of the Day: Most successful startup founders begin with an idea that brings to life the solution to a problem, says Vani Kola, managing director at Kalaari.

“Startup founders, at heart, are visionaries who put everything at stake to solve a problem they are passionate about.”
