Shelter

Shelter

Having coached lacrosse in Upstate New York, I have been through several spring seasons with freezing temperatures on the field. After standing for an hour and a half at a particularly frigid practice last week, I jumped in my car and immediately kicked on the heat. Within a few minutes, the Nissan Rogue had warmed up, and I was finally able to feel my hands and feet again. As I started to drive home, I felt a great wave of appreciation for the simple heating system in my car. The warmth was comforting to me after a long practice outside, and my body needed a break to relax and regain its strength.

Just as I needed that warm-up in the car, sometimes we need a break in our lives from the circumstances that surround us. As we live out our Christian faith in a world that is opposed to God’s ways, it is important that we do not stay in the cold for too long on our own. We need to take refuge in the Lord and draw near to him so that our strength can be renewed.

“How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.” – Psalm 36:7 (NLT)

I have always loved this verse in Psalms where the Bible speaks of finding refuge in the shadow of the Lord’s wings. Despite whatever challenges or adversity that may await us in this temporary life, we can always find rest and refuge in the presence of God’s perfect and amazing love for us. No matter what you may be facing at this moment, whether good or bad, there is no better place you can be than in the warmth and peace of God’s presence.

May you strive to find refuge in the Lord today.
