In the run-up to Christmas, residents of Sheffield are being offered a helping hand to do their shopping.
Anyone with at least 50 points in the BetterPoints Sheffield app can claim one of 10,000 TravelMaster CityWide Day tickets, allowing them unlimited bus and tram travel around the city.
The offer runs until Christmas Eve, enabling more shoppers to leave their cars at home for festive shopping, enjoy the Christmas Market without worrying about driving, and save money on transport.
'We are giving yet another reason to come into the city centre at this special time of year', said Councillor Ben Miskell, chair of Sheffield City Council 's Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee.
Kindness recognition is back in the BetterPoints app
When lockdown first hit the UK in 2020, BetterPoints introduced awards for acts of kindness. Within a fortnight, more than a thousand people had taken the time to tell us something they had done to help someone else.
It was a welcome reminder that all was not lost; that there was hope left in the world.
Kindness is happening all around us, all the time, but is often not seen. With everything going on in the world today, it is easy to become disheartened.
In fact, the act of being kind is itself good for the giver – shown to increase happiness, reduce stress, boost self-esteem, and improve physical and mental health.
And kindness has a ripple effect – the more there is, the more there is likely to be.
All BetterPoints programmes enable users to donate their reward points to charity. Now, they once again recognise other acts of kindness too.
After all, the kinder and happier we all are, the better a world we will live in.

‘My whole mindset has changed’ – School Run Mum Alicia ditched the car and now prefers walking
Recently we reported on behaviour change trials that had cut car journeys by 20 per cent. But what long-term impact do such interventions have?
BetterPoints user Alicia tells us she has stopped driving the school run and that her ‘whole mindset has changed’.
‘I was using the car far too much, taking my daughter to school every day thinking it was saving time when actually it wasn’t really’, she says.
‘The walk to school has calmed us all by giving me and my daughter a bit of time to chat and laugh about things.
Sustainable transport incentives join MaaS in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland
BetterPoints has joined forces with HITRANS to promote their Go-Hi Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) app and encourage sustainable transport in the Scottish region.
Go-Hi, built by Mobilleo , lets people plan journeys, compare prices and buy tickets from a growing network of partners.
The addition of BetterPoints enables HITRANS to reward people for active and sustainable journeys and, in time, for buying tickets through Go-Hi.
Fiona Hyslop, The Scottish Government 's Minister for Transport, said:
‘I’m pleased to see how HITRANS and BetterPoints have been working together to encourage people to travel sustainably using the Go-Hi app.
‘Every small step helps to reduce our carbon emissions and helps make Scotland a healthier place to live in and visit.’
