The Sheer Speed of M2M Adoption

This week I spoke with The New IP on their radio show about the impact of IoT and M2M on communications providers. We talked about the findings from Vodafone’s third annual M2M Barometer report, which found that 27% of organizations say they have M2M projects in place today – up from 22% last year. In my opinion, the sheer speed of M2M adoption and expansion in organizations was the most surprising finding from this year’s report. Before the show, I shared some thoughts about the findings and how Vodafone is approaching the challenges of the explosion in M2M. Check it out here: https://bit.ly/1I75TkD

I totally agree with you but get very frustrated by the lack of urgency from the telcos in Africa. The opportunity exists but seems to be overshadowed by the overwhelming desire to simply be 'bit pipes' reducing the price/MB as a response to competitive pressures. Every telco is looking for new revenue opportunities but almost all of them ignore M2M outside of bearer payload.
