What do we mean by empowering women? A woman can stabilize her rights just as it is. She can contribute to every level of society; she can enjoy social strife. Empowerment adds women resources, opportunity, talent, and motivation. Every woman has some responsibility towards a society that she can contribute with her skills and fight for her rights is Women empowerment.
Types of Empowerment:
However, the empowerment of women categorized into five main parts – social, educational, economic, political, and psychological.
By empowering, women can raise their status through education, awareness, literacy, and training. The word empowerment came from American community psychology and related to the social scientist. It is essential to be empowered for every girl and women. We know today it is the critical factor for economic growth, political stability, and social transformation. Today the world's leader, specialist, and scholars alike are raising their voice on this significant endeavour.
People are empowered when they can be able to access the opportunities around them without constraints such as education, profession, and lifestyle.
"Mr Barack Obama, the 44th US president, said that if women are empowered, then a country is more safe, secure, and prosperous."
"There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.
Kofi Annan, 7th UN Secretary-General."
"Empowering women is key to building a future we want."
Amartya Sen, Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics
what is the main barrier to scale it to the mass people?
- Violence against women and girls are increasing in mass scale. Surprisingly, we can see the exact opposite actions are happening on the ground. Empowering and uplifting girls and women are the most potent resources to progress and transformation for a country rather than horrific violence against them in every second, every minute and every single day.
- Our social obstacles, oppression against women, male-dominated community are obstructing girls to move forward. The word empowerment defines to increase the degree of self-determination in people and in communities to entitle their interest in a responsible and self- determined way. It is the process to become more robust and self-confident, particularly controlling our own life as well as fighting for our rights. Empowerment as action determine both means such as self-empowerment and support to the people professional way that able to overcome the sense of powerlessness and lack of influence and how to recognize the resources to use.
- On the other hand, this is the process for a girl or woman to redefine the gender roles that permit them to acquire the ability to choose between what is good or bad for them and what they can attain in their life! So, we can understand that empowerment is a process, not a product.
There are many reasons to be empowered, but some are very important, given below:
1. Self-realization.
2. Competency
3. Self- efficiency.
The essential elements of empowerment are self-confidence, exposure, and independence. Men and women are the key elements of our society. While society being formatted, we saw the discrimination both the genders. We built our inception through the lens of society. Our community considered women as being inferior to men aspects of strengths and working capabilities. It has been the prejudice though still, our culture continues to capitalize on that old concept.
Our community always has been deprived of a girl or woman of a few things which are only allowed for men to enjoy those facilities. A girl or woman can't decide their role towards society; instead, culture plays a very vital role in this, and it also makes a parameter for a girl or woman in a specific area. But in the modern era now the scenario has been changed. It is being noticed that Women are getting space to amplify their opportunity to develop their talent as well as their role towards society.
If we look at the western world, women's empowerment issue has led to a positive impact, and they are given equal opportunity everywhere to earn their rights and enhance themselves.
Women empowerment is now an essential topic of discussion in the field of economy and development, which also implies a vital role in the political ground and social context. Women's economic empowerment defines the ability to control their rights to enjoy and benefit from the resources, assets, income and their own time as well as the capabilities to manage the risk to boost their economic level and well to be.
The most challenges and problems women face today?
Women face numerous issues today despite struggling for equal rights, achieving so many things still women have to meet so many problems and challenges to prove themselves. Those issues do not exist only to one country, even in so many developed societies. Over the past few decades, it's been a long journey to fight for women's rights; still, women face some problems and challenges. Though it was a long battle to demand their rights and it almost nearly to get the finish line, yet the struggle is not over. It is not surprising if women still need to be there for Women Rights Movement.
Here are some problems and challenges women face today:
1. Underrepresentation in politics.
2. Unequal pay.
3. Problem with maternity leave.
4. Problem with affording education.
5. Higher risk of poverty.
6. Stereotypes.
7. Engagement of over sexualisation.
8. Double standard.
9. Adequate prosecution of rape.
10. Domestic violence.
It is the moral responsibility of a nation to emphasize the problems women face. It is not just a woman, but the problem of the whole nation and the country. So, this is the high time for a revolution. We need to focus on girl’s education which can lead them to be empowered. We must rethink strategies and action around the world. Girl’s education is most important, and there must be a fund for it. It is very challenging for a girl or a young woman to scale this endeavor.
So, no more discrimination. In every area of life, men and women should work together to move forward. Even in the Holy Qur'an, women and men have equal rights. So who are we to discriminate so much?

4 年Very powerful thoughts on Women's Empowerment. Social Stigma, Patriarchy, negative mindset towards women are the stumbling blocks to deter women's empowerment. Lack of proper implementation of laws, lack of proper curricula at the school textbooks and over all lack of opportunities at the decision making and highest policy making levels, women's unaccounted labor at the household chores, mental slavery, dowry, religious fanaticism also the most key barriers to achieve women's empowerment.
