"She Loves Me" opens April 21st at the Milburn Stone Theatre
"It's not a blind date! I know him!"
"How?"
"Letters. Many, many letters."
As an Artistic Director I tend to not play favorites when it comes to shows because the list of shows I love tend to sound like a run on sentence, but in the upper echelon of an imaginary "top ten" would have to include "She Loves Me."

Set in a 1930s European perfumery, we meet shop clerks, Amalia and Georg, who, more often than not, don't see eye to eye. After both respond to a "lonely hearts advertisement" in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. There's exciting twists and turns along that way that leads to a truly memorable night of theatre. The world of online dating has made the old idea of the "Lonely Hearts Club" a thing of the past, but the story of two individuals who are at odds during the day, but dream about each other at night is a tale that remains timeless.
The songs in this show stay with you well after the performance. "Vanilla Ice Cream" is one of the best songs written in musical theatre history for a soprano and I've heard "Tonight at Eight" countless times at auditions for the past decade or so.?The book is witty and the show has five distinct character arcs that make sense and don't talk down to the audience. It's a unique and wonderful production that puts a smile on your face and gets you to tap your toe along the way.
Performances run April 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 28th, 29th?& 30th?with showtimes on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and matinees on Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are now available for purchase online at milburnstonetickets.com or by calling the box office at (410) 287-1037 and if you have time to read it, I also encourage you to check out a rather in-depth (and entertaining) study guide that Villanova University put out for their production in 2018.
