She Leads from Within: Intuitive Thought Leadership--Brisk Steps with God (Part 4)

Most important, I began to hear a voice within: God’s voice.

I’m a woman of faith. I’d like to believe I’m a woman of great faith; someone who walks with God each and every day. But honestly, my relationship with God can get very one-sided, my prayers a laundry list of wants for me and to-do’s for God. I delight in looking back and seeing God in the details of my life, but I’m not so good at waiting on Him for guidance and direction in the moment. More than once, He’s found me walking at a rather brisk pace, looking over my shoulder and asking that He keep up.

Until things don’t go well. Then I’m beseeching God’s help, hands tightly folded, eyes tightly closed. Resounding through my prayer is a “Please, God! Please, God!” litany, but still working through life at that rather brisk pace, I rarely wait around for His answer, not sure how we’re supposed to “hear” God or “see” His direction.

Until I started walking.

Until I got away from my desk and the phone, my to-do list and my wish list.

Not long after I took my first walk, I started going live each week inside the Fave Lifestyles Women’s Group on Facebook. My “Morning WOLK with God” was a ten-minute segment in which I shared “words of loving kindness” with the ladies of Fave. Each week. Every Friday I needed to have something to say. My priority was to share something from God. I wanted my message to be His message, but I was stumped.

How do I do that?

My walks became a time to plan for Friday “WOLKs.” But not at first. Early on I used those first miles to fuss and fume: ????? ???? ?? ?????????? ???????? ???????? ??????, ?????? ????????? ???? ?????? ????????? ???????????????????? ???? ??????? ??????? ???? ?? ???????? ??????????? ??????????. ????????????. ????????! And then in the stillness of my steps, an idea would come. One week I talked about an errand that became more than an errand when I picked a friend up at the train station. Another Friday I marveled at a lesson in grace I got after leaving my phone on the roof of my car. Yes, while driving! Each week messages would come, all connecting to God’s love and faithfulness and bigger, more important lessons in life.

When I said yes to “Morning WOLKs with God,” I began making a list of possible topics, but it went unused. My ideas were always replaced by inspirational ideas that came to me during my walks. Whenever I tried to “bank” a couple ideas, they never worked. But messages from walking always worked. They were timely, insightful, and inspirational. And there it was: God’s guidance from within.
