She Was Enough

This was the first painting I ever made in my collection, it empowers me to be independent. The original painting, that gave me the idea, had a boy and a girl holding hands, that is what I started off the painting as, but as I started throwing each shade of blue on the paper and got to blending them, something struck me as though waking me. First, my thought went from why is the color blue for boys and the color pink for girls, then my thoughts jumped to why is it that the boy and girl are alone, why aren’t there people around them… because experiences or the people around you make you who you are. Then my thought jumped to why are they even together alone, yes I understand LOVE but even with that, even with a relationship, you tend to build a relationship with your significant other’s friends, families, and acquaintances, hence the saying “Marriage is not just about the two individuals marrying, rather it is about the couple and their families coming together as one bigger extended family.” So going back to my thought before, they wouldn’t be alone, they’d have everything and everyone around them. I then came to the thought that one doesn’t need someone else to validate love, love can be found within as well. Therefore, the thought of being independent and taking upon the world by herself. That is how the idea of this painting came to my paintbrush that “She was enough.”
