She ended up with way more than just a "new job".

She ended up with way more than just a "new job".

Recently laid off from a Talent Solutions company, and was given my services as outplacement support.

She ended up with way more than just a "new job".

Meet C.

C had over 10 years of experience as an HR Business partner, and had pivoted into Talent Acquisition & Recruiting - found she loved Technical Recruitment and Sourcing.

She had a knack for placing Software Engineers, iOS/tvOS Engineers (all levels) Sr. Technical MediaProduct Managers, Sr. Director Product Managers,  Streaming & Video Operations, Principle iOS Architects, Technical Project Managers, Web Software Engineers and more!

Like many, she found herself without a job at the end of the summer 2022 when many TA professionals were termed as the Tech layoffs began. While she had more HR experience than recruiting, she struggled with how to build credibility and authority in her TA expertise on her resume and LinkedIn profile.

As we were chatting she said, "I’m just not good at presenting myself." Well hello HR and TA people - we are always so busy taking care of others we feel rusty when it comes to us.  TOTALLY NORMAL!

Then she said, “It’s funny how when we recruit for roles we know what to look for but when it comes to our own it’s so hard!” ?? THIS is why I have been called to be the #careerbff to MY people!!

6 months later she is thriving in her role as a Sr. Technical Recruiter with a company she loves.  She sent me this message just a few weeks ago!

“I’m 100% certain that because of your help, I landed where I’m at. You gave me great advice that I needed to highlight my HR experience and not hide it!

How did she get here?

In order to help her find HER superpowers, I pulled out MINE – which is to guide people through talking about what they have done, ask thoughtful questions and reflect back to them what makes them AWESOME, UNIQUE, INCREDIBLE ECT.

We had to peel back the layers, and dig into the details.

I took time to understand her career journey: where she had been, what she had accomplished, where she felt she naturally excelled, and what she was being called to do next.

I asked relatively simple questions like:

What was your interview process?

On average what was your time to fill?

How many interviews did you conduct weekly?

What was your process in working with hiring managers?

What is a search you conducted that you are most proud of?

How many positions did you fill during your tenure at this company?

How many candidates did you need to present to typically get a fill?

Through this thoughtful questioning, deep dive, and walk down memory lane we were able to come up with great data for the resume, incredible interview stories, ways to elevate the LinkedIn profile and use the HR expertise as a unique value proposition without diminishing the recent Talent Acquisition success.

She was a bit nervous to lean into positioning the HR expertise as a value add, but she took fast action and made the updates we discussed. While I mentioned her new role already, what I didn’t say was that she was laid off in July and landed a new gig that needed a TA person with an HR background by August!

I was simply a guide to help her understand her superpowers, showed her what to highlight and how to position herself to get the roles she wanted, and how to properly use LinkedIn including the key parts of her profile to update and leverage so she could be more easily found by recruiters and hiring managers.

Not only did C land the Technical Role she wanted, she didn’t have to hide her HR background to get noticed.

And she got one heck of an unexpected bonus….

Just six months after starting in her new role, her employer sent her to Playa del Carmen where she had time to reflect on the last few months and what had transpired.

Now, trips to Playa del Carmen are an unusual result but a resume with depth, a profile that converts, a personal brand that boosts confidence and skills to get found and hired very normal when you have a #careerbff looking out for you!

And just so you know how much I freaking love this work, and when I get messages like this – I CRY and send video messages!

Thank you C for blessing me with this message, the experience supporting you was amazing!

I completely agree, I could always be anyone and everyone elses HypeMan but when it comes to hyping myself… the hype-o-meter is always broken like the McDonald’s Ice Cream Machine ??
