She Codes - Enabling Tech Careers
She Codes has provided a pathway to the Tech industry in Australia for many women including Varunpreet Kaur. I caught up with Varunpreet recently re her career and She Codes experience.
1.?????Tell us about your experience at She Codes
?I had an amazing journey with She Codes learning new skills, making new friends and of course learning hoop from Kate Kirwin during lunch time. Over the six month Plus program I gathered working knowledge of various coding languages like Python, Django, HTML and CSS. All the mentors were very supportive and never allowed me to feel alone in this journey. The overall experience helped me deal with challenging situations, remain calm, be patient and most importantly to enjoy the process.?
The greatest learning by far was the focused and consistent application to a given process that guarantees self-growth over the long term.
2.?????Tell us about your position and career goals
After She Codes, I got an opportunity to work at Austal where I started working as a Business System Support Analyst. My role involved providing support to various business systems, implementing new systems, gathering information from stakeholders and developing automated workflows. I have implemented a SAAS based ticketing system by configuring, developing workflows and providing training to end-users. All the learnings from She Codes really gave me the basic knowhow with systems and it helped me to become proficient in my role.
3.?????What has been the most enjoyable part of your work experience over the last 2 years?

?My role involved a lot of interaction with end users and to directly resolve their issues. I enjoy searching and formulating short term and long-term solutions of technical issues, providing streamlined solutions by developing automated workflows or helping them explore alternative solutions to their problems. In the IT industry, every day is different and no two problems are the same, which is what I love about my job and it motivates me to perform better each day.?
4.?????What advice would you give emerging female talent into the Tech industry?
My advice to all fellow women would be to not be afraid to be part of the Tech industry.??
The Tech industry is not scary as it may appear from the outside. Afterall, it is a machine developed by humans to efficiently organise life which is more or less the same way our moms and grandmas used to manage our home efficiently without the use of any Machine.?It has its own processes which we must master in order to see its magic for us and for the entire organisation.?
I strongly encourage all tech-aspirants to devote your time wholeheartedly in leaning the processes at She Codes.?
