Dear readers we need not to be again treading the same dangerous path where the Finance minister resign at the most crucial hour with remarks like I have no mistake PM does not listen to me, I care damn for IMF etc ,etc. Shaukat Tarin record does not speak about clarity of his mood, attitude and leaving things half way, somehow? We have rightly heard that two swords can't be put in a single sheath (Imran Khan & Shaukat Tarin)why, are have done something unwanted, why have we gone nuts? There is no use of annoying those who are funding you to come out of crisis ( Intl organizations). No need of saying ever that we are building a block against USA. Why to have empty cases used again? It may be Tarin, Arbab, Ishrat, Razaq or any other economist of that old mindset &caliber. Have someone else even if imported from abroad ,if we have lost all options?
1 .A stocky man with a moustache. Shaukat Tarin, Pakistan's top economic official, is known as a hard-headed straight-talker who loves a challenge.Tarin once told the New York Times he was most proud of building up the business at Citibank, where he also worked in the Gulf and Thailand Which is good because the veteran banker might just be up against his careers biggest Challenge i.e. steering Pakistan out of its most dire economic straits in years. Although Tarin has shunned politics throughout his career, Muneer Kamal, a colleague at Citibank, said he wasn’t surprised to see his old friend join the government. Most people would run away from the sheer weight of responsibility but Shaukats not that type,” said Kamal. “If he feels its a challenging job and he can do something positive, he wont be shy.
2. Citibank was where I learned all about banking and my experiences there laid the foundations for my career, he told the newspaper in an interview. At the request of the government, he took over as chairman and president of Pakistan’s largest bank, Habib Bank, in 1997, turning it around from a $230 million loss in 1996 to a profit of $30 million in 1998.He had similar success at Union Bank, which he took over in 2000, making it one of Pakistan’s top banks in five years and preparing for its sale to Standard Chartered Bank.
3. Old colleagues speak of a no-nonsense style and attention to detail. He Is a very aggressive person and he means what he says ... he is very blunt, said one banker who worked under Tarin at Saudi Pak Commercial Bank.He has a deep understanding of finance and with numbers he is excellent. Its almost as if he has a photographic memory, said the banker, who declined to be identified. Despite the gruff manner, colleagues say Tarin has always been fiercely loyal to staff, and they to him, and has always been able to attract top talent to work with him. Another old friend and colleague said Tarins political masters would be wise to leave him alone to get on with the job.He has the ability and the capability to deliver provided he is given a free hand. Otherwise hell simply get frustrated and resign one day . He does not ever succumb to pressure.
4. Tarin was born in the eastern city of Multan, where his father, Jamshed Ahmed Tarin, was an army doctor. The elder Tarin has no fears for his son in the tough negotiations he faces. He is honest and an honest man is always a little braver. If you have some credibility then you can negotiate with anybody, he said. An occasional golfer, Tarin is married with three children.
5. Former finance minister Shaukat Tarin said on Wednesday that he would not accept any public office till pending cases against him in the judiciary are settled. "I am a man of principles and will not accept any offer of public office until cases against me are settled. Although, the decision is in my favour at the initial stage but hearing of appeals is still pending before the judiciary,” former finance minister Shaukat Tarin said when The News contacted him for seeking his comments on Wednesday night with regard to some reports on his appointment as Adviser to PM on Finance along with Federal Minister for Finance Hammad Azhar. He was given the additional charge of Finance Minister after removal of Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Shaukat Tarin said that he got an offer from Prime Minister Imran Khan when he had appointed Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh as Adviser to PM on Finance. But he had declined to clinch any public office until cases against him were settled. He said that his stance was clear and he would stick to his position. Shaukat Tarin is considered as a close confidant of PTI-led government as he was made part of the Economic Advisory Group. He was also seen at different high-profile meetings chaired by PM Imran Khan on different economic and financial issues.
