The Sharper Image of Jesus // Proverbs 27:17
By Mark Jordan | Spiritual Advisor
We spent most of the week looking at the relational nature of love. God is love and wants us to be more like Jesus. We definitely need His help to overcome our sin nature and find that help in God’s Holy Spirit. Today’s verse from Proverbs 27:17 helps us take this idea a bit further by realizing we help to sharpen each other like iron sharpening iron. Sometimes that sharpening comes through comfort, other times through conflict. Regardless, we must remember that no one is an island unto him or herself. We need people to support us as well as hold us accountable. True, we will experience comfort and conflict alike, but that also helps us learn about patience, grace, mercy, and forgiveness. So, who do you have in your life that helps sharpen you and keep you sharp? Living with this in mind helps God achieve the sharper image of Jesus within us! And that isn’t just a projection to gaze upon; no, it is a purpose for living.
