Sharpening Your Mental Skills
The human mind represents one of the great frontiers for research and exploration because there are many things we still don’t understand about the complex mechanisms of human consciousness. So it isn’t surprising that there’s a great deal of interest in the extraordinary power of the subconscious in determining our behaviour as well as many of the outcomes we experience in our lives. But this should not diminish the importance of our mental faculties.
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds!
-?????? Marcus Garvey
Human intelligence has enabled us to understand the world in ways that might’ve seemed impossible only a few short centuries ago. And the mind, like any useful tool, needs to be sharpened in order to retain and enhance its usefulness.
We’re all familiar with the many ways that human intelligence can be measured but defining this uniquely human faculty can be misleading. By placing precise limitations around the concept of human intelligence, we create barriers to the way we understand and interpret the enormous diversity of intelligent expression. Human intelligence doesn’t fit conveniently into one particular and inevitably limited box of measurements.
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal;
and nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Thanks to the recent discoveries in the expanding field of neuroscience, we’re beginning to construct a clearer picture of how complex the brain is and how its behaviour does not always perform uniformly in the same way for each individual. The brain appears to be more adaptable than was previously understood and we now recognise that its faculties are capable of being trained and precisely directed.
The fact is that training and developing the mind can lead to increased success, enhanced creativity to solve problems and challenges, greater happiness and personal fulfilment.
That’s why it’s so important to give our minds plenty of exercise. Just like any muscle, neglect leads to atrophy. The brain benefits from mental stimulation. Your mind needs to go jogging. Your brain needs press ups. Your thought processes need some weight training!
Because a fitter mind works better. And there are many ways to encourage it to work more efficiently than you might expect.
Concentration and mental toughness are the margins of victory.

Like any exercise, we’re very good at adapting to the challenge of repeating the same movements. And that principle applies to physical as well as to mental exercise. So, we need to find ways to expand the limits in our mental gymnasium in the same way that we need to adapt our physical exercises to maximise our gains.
Even if you use your wits every day in the course of your work, challenging your mental capacity in new fields can improve all round performance in every area of intelligent endeavour.
In addition to finding new subjects to study and enjoy, it’s important to remember that the brain can benefit enormously from the extra oxygen supply that results from a bout of physical exercise. Going out into the fresh air for a walk or a gentle jog can work wonders for clearing the mind and enhancing cerebral efficiency.
When the brain is put to use, exercised and stimulated, you encourage the development of new neural connections and this improvement in mental efficiency can take place throughout our lives, regardless of age.
So, we’d like to encourage you to start exercising your brain and expanding the limits of your mental faculties. Begin today. Find something interesting that you’d really like to study. Expand your knowledge. Broaden your skills base. Enhance your mental acuity and notice the positive differences that show up in the way you handle and solve problems.
If you found this suggestion helpful and recognise the benefits of exercising and enhancing your mental faculties, find a fresh subject to study today and take the opportunity to share this post. Encourage your family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances to harness their deeper potential for a better and more successful way of experiencing and enjoying the gift of this life to the max.
It’s our intention to be a positive force for change in the world. Let’s help everyone to rise above their limitations and enjoy greater levels of freedom, happiness, inner calm and success in all areas of their lives.
Together, we really can make the world a better place.
