Sharpen Your Axe Frequently

A strong woodcutter once secured a job in a timber merchant's company, drawn to the excellent pay and favourable working conditions. He resolved to do his best in his new role.

The woodcutter's boss gave him an axe and showed him where he was expected to work. On the first day, the woodcutter cut down 18 trees, impressing his boss, who praised him and urged him to continue.

The woodcutter was motivated by his boss's words and tried even harder the following day. However, he only managed to cut down 15 trees. On the third day, he put in even more effort but could only fell ten trees. With each passing day, he was bringing fewer and fewer trees.

Perplexed, the woodcutter approached his boss, apologizing for his dwindling productivity and expressing his confusion.

The boss asked him, "When was the last time you sharpened your axe?"

"Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe," replied the woodcutter. "I have been too busy trying to cut down trees."

Reflection:

This story holds an important lesson for us. In today's fast-paced world, we can get so busy that we neglect our well-being. We often forget to "sharpen our axe" and take time to recharge and rejuvenate ourselves.

While there's nothing wrong with working hard and staying busy, we shouldn't neglect the fundamental aspects of our lives, such as spending time with loved ones, nurturing our spirituality, and engaging in activities that promote personal growth.

Setting aside time to relax, reflect, and learn to stay sharp and effective is crucial. Otherwise, we risk becoming dull and losing our ability to accomplish the things we desire.
