Sharon's Dream of Becoming Pharmaceutical Scientist Comes True

EPA Faciliates for Sharon to Pursue her Dream Career under Scholarship!

My name is Sharon Nathan. I'm 24years old and I come from Papua New Guinea. I successfully completed and received my high school certificate in the year 2016 from Kopen Secondary School in the Province of Enga. I majored in science mainly Biology and Chemistry with a dream of becoming either a Doctor or a Nurse in order to serve my people with love and care. Unfortunately I could not secure a place in the tertiary institutions in PNG due to high competition with limited spaces coupled with some financial challenges.

However I did not give up. I re-enrolled in Enga university center, an affiliated branch of the University of Papua New Guinea where I improved tremendously. During this time, I was introduced to EPA by my cousin Danny Tanakaea who at the time was moving from one Secondary school to another spreading awareness about EPA. I would like to mention that my Dad, being so impressed about his awareness joined in the move to spread awareness about EPA.

I soon became a part of EPA family around mid 2017 and gave my documents to my cousin. He then forwarded my documents to Mr. Jeffers Teargun, the founder of EPA who processes the applications to submit to various Universities aboard. There was quite a delay in the application process mainly because of the delay in obtaining my passport.

Nonetheless, all the necessary documents were made available and by September 2018, I received my first admission letter of a partial scholarship to do a bachelor of Nursing. However, due to some challenges from my end I lost the scholarship. The loss of the scholarship caused my family frustrated but I drew strength from the word of God in Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations”. Knowing that God knows everything about me and he is in control helped me to stay patient alongside the commitment of Mr. Jeffers Teargun to help me find a school.

Finally in August 2019, I received information that I was offered a full scholarship to study Pharmaceutical science in Gangzhou University in China. Studying Pharmaceutical sciences opens me up to the production and Marketing of drugs and so I look forward to inventing a drug someday.

I have plans of furthering my studies to do masters degree and eventually PhD. This will place me in a better position to return home and contribute to both in academic and pharmaceutical sectors as well as production of medicines.

I must say that I love China and the advantages it offers me to meet people from various nations of the world. My school is particularly large and very much diversified. I have made a lot of friends from different parts of the world.

To my fellow Papua New Guineans and especially the girls I would like to say, be encouraged, be patient and go after your dreams. Don't let the lack of finances stop you from achieving your dreams. Finally, Thanks to EPA, I am actively working on to achieve my dreams.
