Shark Tank India's Royalty Frenzy: Where's the Skin in the Game?

Midway through Season 3, a concerning trend has emerged on Shark Tank India – the abundance of "royalty-only" deals offered by the Sharks. While I understand the inherent risks of early-stage investing, it's disheartening to see these seasoned entrepreneurs, who built their empires on calculated risks, seemingly prioritize guaranteed returns over the long-term potential of promising startups.

Sure, royalty deals offer predictability and mitigate risk for the investor. But what about the spirit of entrepreneurship? Isn't that about taking calculated risks, betting on potential, and sharing the journey with passionate founders? Royalty deals feel like a cop-out, a way to safeguard interests without putting any "skin in the game" alongside the founders who are pouring their hearts and souls into their ventures.

It's particularly frustrating considering these Sharks built their own businesses by taking risks, facing failures, and ultimately reaping the rewards. Now, with established empires and seemingly risk-averse portfolios, they appear hesitant to extend the same trust and support to the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Here's the truth: royalty deals might sound good on paper, but they can be detrimental to startups in the long run. They stifle long-term vision, prioritize short-term gains over sustainable growth, and create a lopsided power dynamic where founders face constant pressure to perform without any shared ownership in the potential success.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the valuable mentorship and expertise the Sharks bring to the table. But expertise has its price, and it shouldn't come at the sole expense of the founder's equity and control. I urge the Sharks to remember their entrepreneurial roots, embrace calculated risks, and offer deals that truly align with the long-term success of the ventures and the aspirations of the founders. After all, that's what makes Shark Tank India truly inspiring – witnessing not just financial transactions, but partnerships forged in shared vision and a collective drive for success.

The startups are tools of quick side revenue for sharks as the name suggests these are just sharks not mentors
