SHARJAH AIRPORT SET FOR EXPANSION
Sharjah Airport recorded a 24.4% year-on-year surge in traffic to 7 million passengers in the first half of 2023.
The airport, which is embarking on a major expansion project aimed at increasing its passenger handling capacity to 20 million within a few years, also achieved substantial growth in cargo operations.
The AED2.4 billion Sharjah Airport expansion project, which will be completed by 2026, aims to enhance service standards and boost flight capacity. The airport expects to attract more airline customers, particularly from markets in Europe and East Asia. The home base of Air Arabia, the region’s leading low-cost carrier, the airport managed to handle more than 70,000 tons of cargo, including 6,000 tons of sea-air cargo, the airport said in a statement.
