Sharing an update from Faire co-founder and Chief Data Officer, Daniele Perito

In the early days of building Faire, we were working out of my apartment, doing whatever it took to be successful. As we began building Faire’s data infrastructure, it immediately became clear to me that as a marketplace, we had an incredible opportunity to solve some of the best data problems in the world – between search, discovery, recommendations, selection science and more – there was immeasurable value we could deliver to our customers.??

With that realization, I made an important decision to build our data team as a separate organization alongside product and engineering. This allowed our team to deliver results as efficiently as possible to drive tremendous impact across the entire company. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to hire an amazingly talented team that consists of data scientists, and machine learning, data, and analytics engineers. Our organization is now a well oiled machine led by Chen Peng , and I’m proud of all the accomplishments they have, and will make in the future.?

With that I am sharing that beginning in May, I will transition from day-to-day operations as Chief Data Officer, into a role as Board Member and advisor. This decision has been one year in the making and traces back to two years ago, when I was admitted to the hospital with Covid-19. That experience challenged me to reconsider my life and my future goals. Ultimately, I determined that stepping away was the right decision for me, and I knew we had built an incredibly strong team that would continue to deliver world-class results for our community in my absence.?

When we decided to start Faire over 6 years ago, I remember thinking: ‘if not now, when?’. I had an opportunity to work on an amazing problem with the best co-founders. I reminded myself of that same adage when making the decision to conclude what will forever be the journey of a lifetime. We are in an incredibly fortunate situation as a business and it’s the right time for me personally – so, if not now, when??

One of the greatest learnings I’ll take from my time building Faire, and my biggest piece of advice is: suspend your disbelief. Embrace the notion that you can have the idea, or put an idea into practice, that changes everything for the better. If you mix your unique vantage point, skill set, hard work, and some luck, you can change the world.

Thank you to my amazing co-founders Max Rhodes , Jeffrey Kolovson , Marcelo Cortes , our investors, and everyone at Faire for making it such an incredible place to work.??

Building Faire will forever be one of the greatest joys of my life – and now more than ever, I firmly believe in Faire’s ability to create a positive change in the world. I look forward to cheering the team on from the sidelines and contributing to our shared vision in this new role.?
