Sharing Our Time and Talents to Build a Better World
From mentoring disadvantaged students to relieving food insecurity, Alteryx employees from all corners of the world came together to connect with their communities and each other in over 50 company-supported volunteer efforts this past quarter. These events are led by the Alteryx for Good team, which provides every full-time employee with 20 hours of paid time each year to spend volunteering with causes they are passionate about. ??
It’s the kind of investment that pays wide-ranging dividends beyond any single event.?
“Volunteering fosters spontaneous connection and the chance to work alongside people you might have never met otherwise,” says Tiffany Apczynski , Vice President of Social Impact at Alteryx. “Those experiences spark curiosity and unique perspectives that can help a company like ours continue to differentiate itself.”
“We could not fulfill our mission of feeding families and fueling hope without vital support from individual volunteers and corporate groups like those from Alteryx.”?— Larissa Kusel , Volunteer Events Coordinator at Broomfield FISH Food Bank and Family Resource Center in Colorado, where Alteryx team members helped sort food donations
The Value of Volunteering?
Giving back to communities — through volunteerism, philanthropy, and other purpose-driven initiatives — is a deeply ingrained value in the Alteryx culture. Newly hired employees volunteer together as part of their onboarding, as do our interns. In addition, most teams volunteer as part of their regular team offsites, and the Alteryx for Good team organizes quarterly in-person and virtual volunteering opportunities in every location with 25 or more employees. This is one of the main ways we enable people in our hybrid workforce to connect across different teams and locations.
“Volunteering is a key part of our Future of Work strategy. Especially in a hybrid working environment, opportunities to come together for a shared purpose are exceptionally important.”?— Tiffany Apczynski, Vice President of Social Impact
While employees are free to use their company-paid volunteer time helping any nonprofit organization, the Alteryx for Good team also organizes quarterly events focused on five areas:?
In Q1 of this year, employees across our Americas region volunteered at events to support the basic need of alleviating hunger. We believe that food is a fundamental human right, yet hunger and food insecurity are widespread in the United States. Last year alone, 24 million U.S. households reported that they sometimes or often did not have enough food to eat during the week. Our employees across North America served at food banks whose mission is to reduce poverty as an integral step to reducing hunger and making food more accessible and affordable.?

Meanwhile, both our APJ and EMEA operations focused on education as their priority for the quarter. At Alteryx, we believe in the power of education as a way to uplift society and advance communities. We invest heavily in this area, in particular through our SparkED program and Alteryx for Good initiatives. “As someone who has benefited from mentors taking the time to provide advice, I enjoy doing the same for others,” says Bankole Ogunbowale , a Senior GTM Finance Manager in our London office, who provided virtual career coaching to underprivileged young people as a volunteer with Generation Success. “It’s excellent that Alteryx provides opportunities like this for us to impact society positively.”?
Sharoma Chakraborty , a Renewals Relationship Manager in our Singapore office, says volunteering to help disadvantaged individuals at local nonprofit Bizlink touched her deeply. “Seeing the clients smile and joke and be happy, in spite of obvious challenges, was a very humbling experience,” she adds.?
Virtual volunteering has proved to be an integral way to unite employees in our distributed workforce. Also, our commitment to volunteering is inclusive of employees across all regions. In March, we hosted two virtual volunteering events as an avenue to connect with colleagues in different countries and foster teamwork across borders.
“Volunteering gives us the chance to make things happen. Not only doing something for yourself, but also making the world a little better for the next generation and being a role model — that is my motivation.”?— Verena Vogt, Legal Counsel in Germany, who served as a mentor to youth at Generation Success
New Volunteering Opportunities Underway?
We are proud of our employees’ volunteer efforts in the first quarter. In all, our team members supported more than 50 organizations and logged over 2,100 volunteer hours, which is a 300% increase from Q1 2021.
“Events like this really help us to build a culture of collaboration and camaraderie. Each of us can make a difference.”?— Dan LaVigne , Strategic Account Executive in Minnesota, who helped package meals for low-income families
We are continuing this positive impact in in Q2 with a focus on environmental sustainability projects. Our employees across the global are passionate about sustainability, and the Alteryx for Good team looks forward to providing opportunities that engage our employees in a shared purpose.
