Sharing our sustainability successes for Great Big Green Week!

The Great?Big Green Week is an opportunity for us to show our support for nature and tackling climate change. Hosted every year by the Climate Coalition, it’s a chance to join individuals, businesses and communities across the nation to projects and actions being carried out to protect our planet.

This year celebrations are starting off right with a ‘Good News Day’. At BT Group, sustainability and climate action is part of our DNA so we wanted to share some of our most positive climate action projects over the past 12 months.

Late last year, we teamed up with North Wales Wildlife Trust to help revolutionise the way in which they work. We teamed up with the Trust, which manages 36 nature reserves across North Wales covering around 790 hectares, to connect its rural Maeshafn office near Mold with access to some of the fastest and most reliable broadband speeds in Europe.

We also supported the Ground Control in assisting the local Lincolnshire community in the creation of ‘Open Wood’. Open Wood is a project that originally began to mark national plant a tree day in late 2021 in an attempt to create a new woodland space. Openreach and Ground Control worked together to plant 3,339 young trees in aid of tackling the climate crisis.

Up next, we have BT’s Smarter Living Challenge! This challenge was put in place to demonstrate how small changes to how we live can make huge differences to both our environmental impact but also to our wallets! You can read all of our findings on our website.

On a similar note, have you ever wondered if you could use tech to reduce your carbon usage? Well earlier this year through research, we found that many UK households had began introducing smart technology to both reduce and feel more aware of their energy consumption. Just under half of those we spoke to said technology that monitors or tracks energy usage makes it easier to see the difference they can make.

With climate change being an important global issue, Climate Action should be a top consideration in the things we do on a daily basis. That’s why at BT we recently published our BT Manifesto which holds reporting on our progress towards a bright, sustainable future. To view the BT Manifesto, visit our website.
