Finding Escape in Reading
On this World Book Day, I'm in the mood to share with you four books that have thoroughly captivated me this year. While normally I'd delight in browsing bookstores with friends on weekends, mandatory quarantine has given me the perfect excuse to dive deep into books I've been meaning to read.
For the first time, I've committed to reading an entire book from start to finish and building it into a habit. I started with books collecting dust on my shelf that I'd bought ages ago. As soon as I'd finish one, I'd eagerly grab the next.
The books I'm sharing today are:
Born A Crime shed light on apartheid's impacts, as Unshakable provided insight into finance and investing psychology. Furthermore, The Real-Life MBA offers straight talk on business, team-building, purpose and meaning. Sapiens takes you on an epic journey, from insignificant apes to rulers of the planet, brimming with insights into myths, stories, religion, money, empires, revolutions and humanity's future.
Reading these books was far more than entertaining, they were also profoundly educational. They expanded my mind and transformed how I view the world.
If there's one silver lining to this difficult time, it's discovering a newfound passion for reading through these captivating books. Though sheltering in place has its limitations, losing myself in their pages was a welcome escape and calm amid the chaos outside.
