Sharing Expertise with a Security Perspective

Sharing Expertise with a Security Perspective

Previously, I worked in a corporate security role with a large international company that had a diverse portfolio.  I appreciated the high speed, ever changing environment.  As the security lead, I had to find unique ways to promote the physical security agenda to business units whose primary focus was on the increasing production and the bottom line.

The change in attitude often came after an incident occurred.  For a short period of time afterward, emphasis migrated to security awareness and prevention.  I embraced the opportunity to provide willing ears professional recommendations to enhance workplace security.  In my experience, much has been accomplished during these periods.  Physical security is on everyone's mind in the wake of a tragic event but hardly a consideration when things are running smoothly.  It is also hard to convince decision-makers that it is because of the security protocols that you do not have ongoing problems.

A number of my connections in this forum are not security professionals and are focused on production and that bottom line.  In light of current events that could potentially jeopardize the safety of your employees, please consider reaching out to a security professional and capitalize on their expertise and recommendations.  Not only will you feel better about your potential risk but your employees will take comfort in knowing that you are concerned about their safety.

There are a number of qualified physical security consultants who will work with you on training, enhancing company policy, threat assessments and physical security surveys.  The purpose of this article is to suggest that you consider reaching out to one.

I know my limitations and have not hesitated to reach out to some of you when I have needed advice in your respective areas of expertise.  There are a number of us here willing to help you too! cb

Thank you Charles for this post. It is a good reminder of getting security protocols in place before that costly incident has an opportunity to manifest itself. I find that educating the consumer is the best way to help them purchase goods and services using the knowledge gained from the information provided. Good post Charles!
