Sharing is Caring 101

Every time I step into my manager's office, he makes me feel that I am Superman with all the powers, tools, and resources I need to accomplish the task assigned to me. He even tells me:

Abdullah, if you fail, tell them my manager asked me to do it, and if you succeed, it was your idea.

What more would anyone want? If you succeed you take the credit, and if you fail you can blame your manager. To me that was what trust really meant. That is the real definition of empowerment. I get soooo much energy to work for 24 hours straight, he trusts me with the company! and my back is covered. Although, I took a vow that I will never let anyone be the source of my motivation nor disappointment. I will be my own motivation because no one should control me. But he was so good at it, where I allowed him to.

The weird feeling comes at the end of every and each task I perform, big or small, I always feel unappreciated, and that same manager is always disappointed in the work I do. I keep asking myself why? everything that we agreed on from the beginning and all changes he asked me to do I answered with "Yes sir, right away" and I did it. But still he is not satisfied, he finds the smallest mistakes and blame me for it. He even comes up with silliest notes. That made me hate everything I did because I allowed someone else control how I feel, without recognizing my own accomplishment. 

Then it hit me. He empowered me, made me feel important. How did I make him feel? I took care of the whole project from A to Z without going back to him nor consult him. I did not make him feel important! So, I decided that I will let him know about the steps taken and make him think it was his idea. He is happy, I am happy, and everyone is happy.
