Sharing Anecdotes
What makes an anecdote memorable and shareable?
I’m a firm believer in the ripple effect, that if we all make choices to positively influence our own little corner of the world then this will cascade further until that collection of choices creates a meaningful impact on the wider world towards healthier people, places, and planet.
Doing is awesome, however, sharing brings our actions to a wider audience.
In?November 2024 we held our second session for the Green Futures Storytelling working group. We had an interesting and informative discussion about what makes a story memorable and shareable, and we also had time to be a bit creative and write our own anecdotes about making greener choices. It seems that evoking emotions, and including humour, as well as describing not only the activity but sharing the circumstances around it such as sights, smells, and sounds all help a story to stick in our memory.
I will always remember the anecdote of furtively taking pots of expensive paint from the tip – even though it was openly shelved and available for people to freely take and use rather than adding it to the landfill.
It’s very much a work in progress but the above image shows the start of the discussions around a framework for helping people share their own anecdotes of greener choices and hope for the future. We ended up with five tentative requirements
