Shared Journeys: The Industry Council for Aboriginal Business Leadership Exchange

I was proud to collaborate with the Industry Council for Aboriginal Business in designing the Leadership Exchange Program - we shot this documentary to capture our learning.

The concept of the Leadership Exchange was based on the understanding that corporate and Indigenous leaders generally come from very different social and economic backgrounds. The experiences which have enabled and motivated them to take on leadership roles are often as different as their educational and cultural backgrounds. They operate in very different environments, based on different motivations and demands.

The Industry Council for Aboriginal Business Leadership Exchange provided a safe space and a unique opportunity for Indigenous senior leaders and non-Indigenous executives to experience each other’s work and cultural environment. The objective was to facilitate mutual understanding of each other’s communities, culture, roles, motivations, values and decision-making processes to foster a new generation of knowledgeable, empowered Indigenous and non-Indigenous business and community leaders.

Mentorship programs should be implemented within more post secondary institutions that would help to foster and support local initiatives so that youth return to participate in the economic developments within their communities.
