Ever been in a position where you learnt something valuable and excited to share it with others? Only to do the opposite because 'knowledge is power' and you wish to keep the power with yourself. It's normal. But the question is: is it better?
A difficult question for some. I believe that knowledge sharing is essential, and I am lucky to have met colleagues - who later become close friends - that are open to sharing our knowledge during our academic years. Every single task in our faculty required teamwork; for some, it's always been challenging. For me, it was the opposite. It was fun. And some of the projects, i am lucky to be able to stay in a group with one of my close friends and together where we shared this mindset.
?"We learn and share together, and we succeed together."?
So here are some benefits of knowledge sharing that I went through.
Firstly, it opens up a road for best practices. Our team, for the most part, has always emphasised the importance of being transparent and analytical without being judgemental. In general, everything revolves around constructive criticism, which leads to ease of knowledge sharing. Knowledge sharing helps us build teamwork procedures, particularly research writing and presentation. We shared everything we could, from presentation style, constructing sentences and making the report flow as seamless as possible, setting up schedules, how to support one another better, and much more. So, how did we do? We did great! For many of the modules we worked with, we achieved our target, and everything was done on time, which is 1 to 2 weeks earlier than deadlines, a practice we maintain for risk management.?

The point is, it's beneficial! And businesses ought to consider it more and create their knowledge management system. One interesting case study I have always remembered is how Ford drives knowledge management. They have a proper system to capture employees' know-how and incentivise knowledge sharing.?
Next, having an environment where everyone is open to growth and sharing their knowledge allows for building meaningful connections and improving communication skills. In a way, knowledge sharing can be viewed as you becoming the teacher. And teachers are most effective when they can communicate the knowledge in a way that's easy to understand, which can be achieved if the teachers truly understand the topic. And this understanding happens faster when you teach and learn as you go along! Interesting how that works.?
What's next? For businesses, let's explore knowledge management to encourage best practices and potential innovation.?
For everyone else? Let's create a circle of friends or community, to share, learn and enjoy each other's company. It makes you feel good and benefits everyone.?
