Share Your Top Lessons Learned with Your Team

This is something I use when presenting to groups for sharing my top lessons learned:

  • Your opportunity is yours to create, raise the bar; it’s easier to succeed than you think.
  • Ask for help/get a mentor.
  • Relationships and marriage take work.
  • Help others develop, be charitable, and give back (St. Ignatius).
  • Your family history affects you (e.g., alcoholism and divorce).
  • Write down your goals, share with others, and review constantly.
  • Communication is vital; be direct, authentic, and straightforward.
  • What do you want said at your wake?
  • What is success?
  • Ethics/integrity
  • Trust your gut and be decisive; when in doubt, do the right thing.
  • Treat all people as you like to be treated.
  • The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
  • Cash is king, watch your burn rate/spending.
  • Surround yourself with people you like, know, trust, respect, and can learn from.
  • Be challenged every day.
  • Have a balanced sense of urgency.
  • Performance is measured on exceeding goals and expectations.
  • Build your brand.
  • Bring humor and laugh.
  • Never give up.
  • When in doubt, do the right thing.
  • Have fun!
