The coronavirus is impacting the way many organizations get work done. Our team is looking to hear from people who are experiencing a new way of work and life during this time of unprecedented change.

The Rise of Remote project is dedicated to understanding the personal impact that these changes are having on knowledge workers, families, educators, and others that are just starting to implement remote work into their daily lives.

Please send me a message if you or someone you know would like to share their experience, and we will reach out to time to capture your story (you do not have to share your last name or company if you wish to share anonymously

Suddenly Remote

We are seeing unprecedented numbers of companies implement emergency remote work programs. I will be dedicating this section of the newsletter to providing Tips and tricks from the home front as tech workers go remote during coronavirus crisis

Remote work is the next diversity frontier - I was at a conference, talking about the gig economy and the future of work. There were around 500 people in the audience. I asked, “How many of you have a diversity program?” Every hand in the room shot up.

Zoom CEO Eric Yuan Is Giving K-12 Schools His Videoconferencing Tools For Free - On Thursday, on the heels of Zoom’s biggest day ever for downloads the day before, CEO Eric Yuan was taking the time to remotely sign up schools to free accounts of his video conferencing software.

Is Coronavirus the Beginning of the End of Offices? - With millions of people around the world working from home as a result of the outbreak, whether through quarantine or as a company precaution, the question is being asked by outlets around the world: are we seeing the beginning of the end of the traditional office typology?

This Is Why Employers Are Still Denying Your Remote Working Requests - No employer wants to make their workers’ lives unnecessarily hard. Beyond the obvious–that your job is genuinely impossible to do from home–there is another good reason your employer might not be granting remote working requests: infrastructure.

Coronavirus forces design schools, studios, and events to "transform difficulty into an opportunity" by going digital - Designers, universities, events, and brands with products to launch are taking their activities online as coronavirus forces the sector to consider replacing real-world interactions with virtual alternatives.

The Freelance Revolution

The rise of independent contractors and globalization of knowledge work is the Industrial Revolution of our time. Everywhere we look, we can see the U.S. workforce undergoing a massive and structural change.

Would you rather freelance instead of work full-time? - Freelancing certainly allows for freedom in one’s career, but working a regular full-time job does offer guaranteed stability. Which would you do?

New York weighs anti-Uber legislation — but it could spell disaster for creative workers - It seems New York State wants to follow California down a legislative path to protect Uber and Lift drivers and other “gig economy” workers by ensuring that they get benefits and employee rights.

Coronavirus forces companies like Uber and Lyft to reckon with workers' rights - Uber and Lyft achieved multi-billion dollar valuations by classifying drivers as independent contractors who are ineligible for benefits. Now the spread of coronavirus may force the gig economy to reform.

Wellness at Work

We will spend one-third of our lives working, and the disruption to the way we work has never moved faster. This all has the potential to impact our overall wellness as we navigate the changing landscape and fight for balance. Wellness at work affects each of us, our teams, and our companies.

How remote work can affect and improve your mental fitness depending on your social personality, according to a psychotherapist - Like any circumstance, remote work may enhance or diminish your mental strength. It all depends on how you respond to it. For some people, remote work is likely to help them build bigger mental muscles. For others, however, remote work might actually drain them of mental strength.

I have long been a fan of teleworking and remote team-work! Big on self sufficiency and empowering responsibility, accountability and connections. The individual contributor can now become the Intrapreneur that is deep inside of them without feeling like their voices are unheard. Also remote work platforms allow more transparency, opportunities o seek and receive feedback from management. Not to mention flexibility and productivity. I am personally a much better worker because I have less stress about traffic, running late, leaving the office early to care for my family.. etc.. I need a work life balance and require it as a contractor, now Founder. I'm almost afraid of what office life will be like after we fully understand how business as usual can continue to work despite having a dedicated cubicle. As with everything we must have rules. I have a rule that I turn off notifications and sound on my device, I don't overlap/ overload on digital conference platforms. Have a limit. Work and business by priority. Webinars and professional development by service, need.. save room for your podcasts, music and meditation or reading time..take care of yourself and schedule time to disconnect. No matter in the office or not ??
