Our vision is that every athlete will be safe, supported, and strengthened through sport.
Parents all over the country are busy planning another summer full of fun and activity for their kids. Weeklong overnight camp? Check. Recreational sports league? Check. Daycare at the local school, church, or rec center? Check.
But before packing that sunscreen and water bottle, parents should dig a little deeper to make sure any organization or program their child interacts with has measures to prevent and respond to abuse and misconduct. To help parents and guardians make the best decisions for their kids, the U.S. Center for SafeSport has created a Summer Safety Checklist. The checklist includes suggested questions to ask providers about important topics, including:
“Whether it’s sleepaway camp or a summer sports league, we want to arm parents and guardians with the right questions to help keep kids safe while they are having fun this summer,” said Ju’Riese Colón, the Center’s CEO.
The Checklist also includes a link and redemption code to take the Center’s “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport” free online training. The course explains the issues of misconduct in sport and helps parents ensure their children have a positive and safe sport experience.
