Please Share This. It's Time to Talk

Two years ago this month my world changed forever when Dan, my identical twin brother, best friend and business partner took his life.

Some days have been very difficult, but slowly, thankfully, life is returning to a semblance of normality. I am very lucky to have such a supportive family and amazing friends and colleagues. The reason for sharing this now is that today is Time To Talk Day – a day to discuss mental health problems and raise awareness. I personally want to talk about a project that I have been working on in recent months with a dear friend of mine, Steven Wallington. Photography is a shared passion of ours and between us, we have set up The CALM Photography Movement, founded specifically to help men express their emotions and provoke conversation through the medium of photography.

At the same time we are raising awareness and funds for CALM, an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest single killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. We are looking for professional and amateur photographers to submit up to five images for inclusion in an exhibition taking place in May at the prestigious Getty Images Gallery in London. We are also curating those images into a book for sale at the exhibition with all proceeds going to support CALM.

I will share the details of the website next week, but in the meantime if you know any photographers who might be interested in contributing, please feel free to share this post and email: [email protected].

And remember, it’s okay to talk.

Scott, we too lost a close family member in his early thirties. A colleague at work lost her brother. I am here at Getty with my 8 month old son, Thomas. Great exhibition, great initiative.

My dear friend Scott, I stand beside you and ask anyone who has been effected by mental health and the loss from it and would like to contribute in any way to this worthy cause please get in touch. Our long term aim is to take CALM from a 4 hour a day helpline to 24 hours so please come and talk with us.
