Share Information - Management tip for leaders!

You know what I am tired of hearing? ……………… that my boss did not pass me the right information.

One of the biggest challenges any team faces is when the leader / manager is not willing to share more information about a task or project with them. Think about this for a moment, if the leader is an autocratic one then you know what’s going to happen, expectations are not going to be met and results are not going to be quite right.

Has this happened to you? Or have you done the same with your colleagues or your team members?

In this article I am going to talk about why (Sharing Information) the right way is very important for a leader.

1.?????Why share - As a leader you need to make sure that you provide the tools to your team and sharing information is one of the most important. If you want your team to do well and exceed their targets then you need to share the complete information about the said project or task.

2.?????What to share - A leader needs to be smart in understanding what kind of information need to be shared. One of the most important aspects of leadership is to filter out the right information to be shared with your team members. You are privy to a lot of information so you need to know how to filter the information

3.?????When to share - Some information needs to be shared right at the start of a task and some at different stages in the task. This ability to know when to share this information will make the team efficient. Too much information at the start can overload the team members and thus you are the best judge on when to share what.

4.?????How to share - I find this aspect to be very important, the best way to share information is to deliver it in a clear, concise manner and you need to make sure that the receiver understand what you are saying and it should be in the right context. So it is up to you to choose a verbal or written method, however you need to get the right message across.

Bottom line - don't be scared to share, majority leader’s suffer from not sharing or passing out information. Somewhere they have this insecurity and controlling behavior that stops them from sharing. If you want to become a successful leader you need to let go of this insecurity and start sharing.

Ask yourself do you share information with your colleagues and team members? If yes then what can you do better? If the answer is NO then what is stopping you from sharing??
