Be - Share - Example
Stephen De Sede
I help individuals and teams crack the intelligence code, unlocking the psychology driving human-centric leadership, brand and culture being impacted by in the AI era.
It’s so simple, yet, for so many, it has become not hard, just irrelevant.
To be irrelevant is to be invisible in your own life.
- BE: your gifts…and provide them first to you
- SHARE: your gifts…and deliver them to others
- EXAMPLE: of your gifts…every day for everyone
Our job is to be loved, to discover and be discovered. It’s in our DNA as a species.
But in a world of overwhelm, the most curious of all discoveries, ourselves, we have now outsourced to others.
In some ways, this happened to me, yet without knowing it I got caught in “the trap”.
The ego of vanity, posting socially multiple times a day, tagging endlessly, convincing myself it was not about comments, those likes and shares (and I was rarely self-convinced…without knowing it).
So may I ask you simply.
What are you good at?
What’s that passionate endeavour that makes you feel alive, makes you feel worthwhile?
I have a dear friend who drives Uber, a registered nurse, and highly skilled in law enforcement principles.
Yet, the pleasure of “making your ride from A to B the best part of your journey" is his aim for you.
Having people enjoy the journey is his passion.
Or a Pastor in a community, who's of an age where society would suggest they should be married, raising a child perhaps.
Yet, she has made people’s marriage to their faith her passion.
So what of you?
May I ask, not what are you good at, but what are you passionately obsessed at immersing yourself in?
Not a skill, not even an activity, but what makes you just feel alive, a sense of curious discovery as never before?
What makes you discover your humanity making you able to see, hear, respond and react to the opportunities life will present you?
- To take someone on a ride.
- Speaking into someone's faith.
- Or like me, speaking into your truth
Unleashing your confidence, making you believe in the most common of gifts we all have—your personal brilliance—and the encouragement to release and embrace it.
SO I STOPPED. The De Sede Angels encouraging me to simply stop.
So I did, and whilst doing so I asked myself:
- Who is it that I really help?
May I ask that of you also, as you read.
- Who is it you help?
For me, a Mother whom I’d never met, with an infant child who was terminally ill.
- Calling me to ask for “my permission” for them to pray to their God for their infant child’s life of hardship to end.
Or a waitress whilst ordering coffee on only the third occasion we had met, then sitting on a fourth occasion,
- Her telling me of sexual assault and the resulting brutal beating whilst being drugged, asking me “tell me I did nothing wrong to deserve this Steve.”
Or a father whose marriage has ended, who has lost so much confidence.
- Who now takes an airline ticket to his child’s school so his 12-year old son will believe him when he says “let’s go on a holiday son.”
Convincing himself, the ticket is the proof his young son needs when it is not.
It’s not always of such brutal life circumstance.
- “My 14-year-old boy is an elite athlete, help him fit into this world Steve”.
- “I survived a second heart attack at 58, how do I make use of this third chance Steve?”
- “I want to be the hero to my 3 children Steve, how do I step up and become their hero 30 years from now, starting today?”
These are the people my gift has been planted in me to serve.
Those who seek past the mere vanity of likes and comments, but into the soul of their own existence, as a mother, a daughter, a father, a son, a human.
An Uber driver wishing to serve, a pastor wishing to provide, an entrepreneur wishing to enable, a CEO wishing to guide, a Mother wishing to heal, a Father wishing to believe.
It’s for this reason I have taken a step back.
It’s for this reason I am on the journey to prepare and to serve.
To prepare my gifts of brilliance to ignite, enable and enlighten your brilliance.
Do you love what you see each morning in the mirror?
- Is it a reflection of pride?
- Is it a reflection of aspiration?
- Is it a mystical, yet faint daily reminder that whispers “what else, what if, what maybe...?”
When you look in the mirror, what do you see?
Of just you, not her, his or even my opinion, just yours.
I am the enabler of that answer you seek.
For those who have wondered where have I gone, I am fine, for I am preparing.
"For the so many that DM'd me, pardon my delay, but I sincerely appreciate you and your reach out and concern." Thank you!

I like helping people where I can. I am considered a good listener, an idea man, and an excellent advisor. I am a survivor of AML, and always willing to listen, encourage, and offer help to those battling cancer.
4 年Good to hear your voice again, Steve. You have your finger on the pulse of many hearts. You asked a lot of questions for self-reflection in this piece. While passion for a long time has been to mentor and empower leaders to be the leaders they ought to be, I found in the last year a growing passion to write stories that move people to grow in how they look at themselves and the world.?
