Shaping Your Destiny
Feeding Your Goals and Your Future
Let’s take a moment to highlight your goals. The first question today is to check that you have a clearly-defined set of goals that perfectly describe what you’re planning to achieve. Have you written down your goals and placed the description in a prominent place where you can see it clearly every day? Obviously, goals are very important focal points that serve to channel our time and energy in a productive and meaningful way. We’re surrounded almost everywhere by reminders that each of our goals has to fit within a very precise time frame and that we need an action plan to make sure we’re carrying out key tasks on a daily basis.
In fact, your goals should be so clear to you that you can express them in one short, simple and unambiguous sentence. Can you do that? The more clearly you can express your intentions, the more effectively you will imprint them in your thoughts and feelings. That’s the purpose of having goals. They’re your compass heading and the only way to check that your life is heading in the direction you’ve chosen for yourself.
Everybody has their own Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb.
- Seth Godin
With so many courses and reminders about goal-setting, it's strange to acknowledge that most people don’t have goals. And by goals, we mean those clearly-defined objectives that you commit to achieving by a given date and time. The vast majority of people have a vague notion of what they’d like to have in their lives. But very few have taken the extra step and written down exactly what they intend to achieve.
If you haven’t joined the ranks of the few, now’s your chance. A life without goals tends to settle for whatever shows up along the way. And that is not a good formula for fulfilling your untapped potential and taking better control of your life and your future. No wonder so many people feel dissatisfied with their lives. Stressed, anxious and filled with feelings of being powerless, most people don’t really believe that they’re even capable or worthy of achieving any kind of meaningful goal.
But this is where goal-setting can galvanise our latent potential for success and fulfilment.
If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much!
- Jim Rohn
The process of selecting a worthwhile set of goals and then writing them down can act as a powerful catalyst that activates our creativity and stimulates our motivation to transform our goals into reality.
The next challenge is to maintain the initial enthusiasm and momentum and fuel your goals with energy, passion, drive and determination. So, how can you do this on a daily basis? The answer is simple, powerful and surprisingly effective. You need your own personal set of positive affirmations.
All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.
- Orison Swett Marden
Once again, it’s surprising that so few people employ this technique to improve their morale, motivation, self-belief and personal drive for success. Wherever we look, we’re bombarded with vast amounts of data, most of which falls into the category of negatively-biased news. It’s how social media attract our attention. But it offers a very distorted view of what’s happening in the world. It’s highly selective, processed and filtered to engage our emotions. Have you ever noticed that? It’s happening all the time.
So, it’s hardly surprising that we develop a fairly pessimistic outlook on life. And its extraordinary range of possibilities. A carefully chosen set of positive affirmations can act as a highly effective antidote to the vast amounts of negativity that swamp our senses every day.
This one step – choosing a goal and sticking to it – changes everything.
- Scott Reed
Affirmations – especially the emotionally-charged phrases that are aligned with your goals and aspirations – provide a carefully constructed channel for your energies and your focus. They realign your attention with a very positive set of affirming declarations that stimulate your enthusiasm and your creativity. They provide the bedrock for sustained effort and measurable achievement.
But, most of all, they provide fertile ground for the development of a robust belief system and a deep sense of personal empowerment. Affirmations remind you every day that you really are capable of achieving whatever you set out to accomplish. And this is incredibly helpful when you encounter the inevitable difficulties, obstacles and setbacks that occur along the pathway to success. Affirmations realign you with your vision. They’re the raw emotional fuel of determination.
If you raise your standards but don’t really believe you can meet them, you’ve already sabotaged yourself. You won’t even try; you’ll be lacking the sense of certainty that allows you to tap the deepest capacity that’s within you. Our beliefs are like unquestioned commands, telling us how things are, what’s possible and impossible and what we can and cannot do. They shape every action, every thought and every feeling that we experience. As a result, changing our belief systems is central to making any real and lasting change in our lives.
- Anthony Robbins
The key to your affirmation’s power - whether you select one for yourself or a couple of dozen – is to repeat them every day. Once in the morning and once in the evening would be the minimum number of repetitions. The more often you use them, the more their intent will be integrated into your daily behaviour and belief system. It’s such a simple yet extraordinarily powerful method for personal growth and transformation that it can significantly enhance your ability to achieve whatever you set out to accomplish.
Impossible is just a word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.
– Muhammad Ali
