Shaping Who We Are and How We See the World

Shaping Who We Are and How We See the World

I am concerned about the culture that we are creating.

If man is by nature a social animal, as Aristotle indicated, then we know we’re influenced by the culture that surrounds us ??.?

Culture is immensely important, and I realize its significance more and more with each passing day.

So, what exactly is culture? According to the dictionary:

Culture can be defined as all the ways of life including arts, beliefs, and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to generation.

To narrow it down, culture is the set of beliefs and practices we pass down. It ultimately shapes who we are and drives how we see the world around us ??!

The Influence of Culture on Our Decisions

Who are you? ?? Listening to Dr. Marcus Collins, an expert in deciphering culture, I was intrigued to hear him say that our decisions are influenced by the people around us. While we might pride ourselves on our independent decision-making, many of our choices are actually influenced by cultural norms and the people we interact with daily.

Take, for example, a trend, a fad, or even a 10-second video we hear about and watch on social media. Within days, many adopt these beliefs as if they are absolute truths ??.?

This collective acceptance of trends, even when they aren’t rooted in fact, highlights how culture binds us together through shared beliefs.

Culture as Our North Star

These shared beliefs serve as our North Star, guiding us in our interactions and decisions ??.?

Culture is incredibly important, perhaps more so now than ever before. As we build our future, filled with optimism, goodness, and an accepting, non-racist society, our shared beliefs will be the secret sauce to securing this vision.

There is so much more to be done to safe guard our culture!

So, what are your beliefs? ?? The beliefs that create a culture are connected to how we perceive the world, and our perception can shape the reality we experience.

The Responsibility of Leaders

Our leaders have an enormous responsibility in transferring the beliefs that will influence society and culture ??. These beliefs dictate our behavior, creating a cycle where our internal beliefs shape our external actions. While belief is internal, behavior is external, reflecting the values we hold dear ??.

1 Action Plan to Strengthen Positive Cultural Influence:

  • HOW? Practice and promote empathy and respect in all interactions.Share and celebrate stories of kindness, acceptance, and cultural understanding. Stand against racism and discrimination.
