Shaping Tomorrow's Innovators: Gear Up Startup Programme Graduation Ceremony and HKU Demo Day 2024

Hong Kong, June 27, 2024 - 香港大学 's Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (HKU TEC) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the Gear Up Graduation Ceremony, Showcase, and HKU Demo Day held on June 27, 2024, at the Centennial Campus of HKU. This event brought together a dynamic mix of aspiring entrepreneurs, industry leaders, investors and university faculty to commemorate the achievements of the HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Core programmes.

The day commenced with an inspiring address by Professor Hongzhe Sun , Chair Professor of Chemistry and Associate Vice-President at HKU, setting a tone of innovation and entrepreneurship. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of Gear Up Graduation Certificates to 14 outstanding teams by esteemed Guests of Honor, including Mr. Shang Hailong, Legislative Councilor of HKSAR; Prof. Hongzhe Sun; and Mr. Jonathan Chan Pok Chi JP, Convenor of Action Group on Youth Development Fund and Programmes of Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB).

A poignant speech by Gear Up Mentor Representative, Mr. Keith Li , CEO and Co-founder of Innopage Limited , underscored the significance of nurturing innovation and supporting budding entrepreneurs. The startup representative, Mr. Cameron van Breda , CEO and Co-founder of Hollo , expressed gratitude towards HKU for their support.

The event culminated with closing remarks by Mr Paul Wang , Director of Techno-entrepreneurship Core, who acknowledged the support received from the Youth Entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area program and the We Venture project, funded by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, HKSAR Government . Mr. Wang also introduced ongoing startup programs and unveiled the launch of the HKU Techno-entrepreneurship Core Academy at Qianhai and co-working spaces in HKU iDendron @Wanchai.

Following the Graduation Ceremony, the HKU Demo Day 2024 – Round 2 showcased the pioneering work of 14 teams in the healthcare and advanced technology sectors. The presentations provided a platform for these teams to demonstrate their innovative solutions, fostering connections with potential investors and industry partners.
