In a world where digital product development is continuously evolving, the importance of an organized, agile, and effective process can’t be overstated. Today, we’ll dive into how we’ve harnessed the power of ClickUp, a project management tool, to transform our product development process, from high-level organization to efficient sprints. Read on to discover our strategy for streamlining product development and delivering exceptional outcomes.
Every Product Deserves a Space
We love compartmentalization, which is why we use ClickUp’s Spaces for our diverse portfolio of products. Why? Because managing GitLab or GitHub connections per space just makes more sense and avoids confusion. We also believe that organizing everything under a product-focused Space gives room for the many facets of development that a folder cannot accommodate.
Documenting the Process
Within each Space, we house a documentation folder. Think of this as your project’s encyclopedia, filled with everything from onboarding materials to design assets, and high-level feature documentation (low-level specifics are attached to tasks). Documents and tasks stand side by side but distinct in ClickUp, offering an organizational structure that just “clicks” better for us than tools like Notion or Coda that force you to blend the two.
The Power of the Product Folder
Our product folder is a reflection of our commitment to structured processes. Here, we use the power of Kanban-style boards to visualize our roadmap on a quarterly basis. Then there’s the all-important backlog, home to everything we need to address, from bugs to new features. This is where prioritization occurs, using a method called RICE, an acronym for Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort which we borrowed from?Intercom’s excellent blog post. From design work to development, every task moves along in a logical sequence until it’s ready to be implemented in a dev sprint.

Dev Sprints: Two-Week Turns
The last piece of our ClickUp puzzle is the Dev Sprints folder. Here we champion simplicity, organizing our development work into two-week sprints. Every task tackled by a developer comes with the advantages of ClickUp’s GitLab or GitHub integration, providing smooth navigation and convenient communication. For tasks with a visual component, developers record a video of the feature in action. Coupled with the use of?Vercel?for preview deployments, this ensures a simple and effective review process.
To Wrap it Up
The essence of our approach to product development boils down to using ClickUp’s Spaces, appreciating the distinction between documents and tasks, embracing the integration with GitHub or GitLab, and adopting an effective sprint system. By applying these strategies, we’ve been able to streamline our processes, enhance communication, and ultimately, build better products. If you have anything to suggest, we’d love to hear it! We’re always trying to tweak and improve on this workflow.
